Masculino genérico e sexismo gramatical

Abstract

Esta dissertação tem como "leitmotiv" a discussão de um uso linguístico - o masculino genérico - e um conceito linguístico - o gênero não marcado - numa situação que chamaremos de sexismo gramatical. O masculino genérico pode ser resumido, em linhas gerais, como o uso do gênero gramatical masculino para denotar o gênero humano (homens e/ou mulheres). O conceito de gênero não marcado, por sua vez, origina-se na escola estruturalista e ainda ocupa um lugar de destaque nos estudos linguísticos atuais como suporte teórico para a descrição do masculino genérico. Ao final desta dissertação, esperamos ter demonstrado ao/à leitor(a) que o uso do masculino genérico e o conceito de gênero não marcado operam em conjunto na manutenção do que chamamos sexismo gramatical.<br>

Abstract : This dissertation has as its "leitmotiv" the discussion about a linguistic usage - the generic masculine - and a linguistic concept - the unmarked gender - in a situation which we will call grammatical sexism. The generic masculine can be described, briefly, as the usage of the masculine grammatical gender to denote the human gender (i.e. men and/or women). The concept of unmarked gender, in its turn, has its origins in the structuralist school and it still holds an important role in contemporary linguistic studies as a theoretical background for the description of the generic masculine. At the end of this dissertation, we hope to have demonstrated to the reader that the usage of the masculine generic and the concept of unmarked gender work together in the maintenance of what we call grammatical sexism.
