Úrsula di Maria Firmina dos Reis, una traduzione commentata in italiano: tra etnie, culture e voci femminili

Abstract

A pesquisa apresenta a primeira tradução comentada em língua italiana do romance Úrsula (1859), de Maria Firmina dos Reis, considerada a primeira escritora negra do Brasil. O estudo tem como objetivo difundir a obra e a trajetória da autora no sistema literário italiano, contribuindo para a valorização da literatura feminina e afrodescendente do Brasil e para o fortalecimento do diálogo intercultural entre os dois países. A metodologia, de natureza qualitativa e interpretativa, baseia-se nos princípios dos estudos descritivos da tradução e na teoria dos polissistemas, integrando perspectivas linguísticas, culturais e de tradução. O processo desenvolve-se por meio de quatro etapas principais: análise bio-literária da autora, estudo temático e estilístico do romance, posicionamento do texto no sistema cultural de recepção e tradução comentada. O trabalho examina as diferenças linguísticas e culturais entre o português brasileiro e o italiano, com atenção especial ao discurso abolicionista e às vozes femininas presentes na narrativa. A tradução propõe-se como um ato de mediação cultural e de ressignificação simbólica, que amplia a compreensão de temas como identidade, memória e justiça social. A pesquisa demonstra que Úrsula mantém relevância contemporânea ao questionar estruturas do poder e ao afirmar a literatura como instrumento de transformação cultural. A tradução, assim, reafirma-se como um ato cultural e político que contribui para a reconstrução de uma memória coletiva mais consciente e plural.

Abstract: The research presents the first annotated Italian translation of the novel Úrsula (1859) by Maria Firmina dos Reis, regarded as the first Afro-Brazilian woman writer. The study aims to promote the work and the legacy of the author within the Italian literary system, contributing to the recognition of female and Afro-Brazilian literature and to the strengthening of intercultural dialogue between the two countries. The methodology, qualitative and interpretative in nature, is based on the principles of descriptive translation studies and the polysystem theory, integrating linguistic, cultural, and translation perspectives. The research process develops through four main stages: bio-literary analysis of the author, thematic and stylistic study of the novel, positioning of the text within the target culture, and annotated translation. The study examines linguistic and cultural differences between Brazilian Portuguese and Italian, with special attention to the abolitionist discourse and the female voices present in the narrative. The translation is conceived as an act of cultural mediation and symbolic re-signification, expanding the understanding of themes such as identity, memory, and social justice. The research demonstrates that Úrsula retains contemporary relevance by questioning structures of power and affirming literature as a tool for cultural transformation. The translation thus reaffirms itself as a cultural and political act that contributes to the construction of a more conscious and inclusive collective memory.
