O corpo tradutório: tradução e interpretação de língua brasileira de sinais (libras) no teatro

Abstract

Esta tese tem como objetivo compreender a natureza do corpo tradutório, descrever sua constituição e explicar a relação do corpo tradutório com os demais sistemas que compõem o polissistema de tradução no teatro para Língua Brasileira de Sinais ? Libras. Estabeleceram-se como objetivos específicos de pesquisa: a) investigar de que forma os tradutores e intérpretes de língua de sinais / português- TILSP realizam a tradução e interpretação de Libras no teatro; b) analisar a partir dos discursos e narrativas dos TILSP, os processos estabelecidos pelos TILSP para a tradução e interpretação de Libras no âmbito teatral; c) estabelecer relação entre a tradução e a interpretação de Libras com os demais sistemas envolvidos no polissistema tradutório no teatro tomando como base a Teoria de Polissistemas. O objeto de estudo situa-se nos Estudos de Tradução, mas, é atravessado pelos campos epistemológicos dos Estudos Culturais, Estudos Surdos e Estudos de Teatro, e, problematiza aspectos relacionados às políticas de acessibilidade, tendo em vista a existência de uma percepção de que a tradução e interpretação de Libras sejam entendidas como um recurso de acessibilidade contemplado pela legislação brasileira de acesso e incentivo à cultura. Neste trabalho, a Teoria de Polissistemas oferece subsídios para refletir sobre o processo tradutório de textos literários ? gênero este, que frequentemente é apresentado em espetáculos teatrais ? levando em consideração os contextos culturais envolvidos no processo de tradução e interpretação. O conceito do corpo tradutório, sua constituição e o seu papel no polissistema de tradução no teatro é contextualizado a partir da perspectiva teórica da Teoria de Polissistemas de Even-Zohar. A tese apresentada propõe que a tradução e a interpretação de Libras, no âmbito teatral, acontecem através do corpo do TILSP ? aqui entendido como um sistema ? que no teatro faz a mediação e a mobilização entre os demais sistemas que compõem o polissistema tradutório de Libras neste âmbito. O corpo tradutório, nesta tese, é entendido primeiramente como o corpo físico do TILSP, mas também como um constructo estabelecido através da aproximação dos sistemas culturais e de seus repertórios e a partir da mobilização das informações subsidiadas pelos sistemas envolvidos no polissistema. O distanciamento ou tensionamento entre os sistemas interferem no processo de construção efetiva do corpo tradutório, caracterizando assim, uma tradução descorporificada, ou seja, uma tradução realizada pelo TILSP, mas que dada a interferência dos sistemas, dá-se de alguma forma, em um espaço de não significado, em contraposição a uma tradução que é realizada a partir da construção de sentidos textuais e estéticos do espetáculo, e, portanto, considerada aqui como corporificada. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com nove tradutores e intérpretes de Libras com experiência no âmbito teatral, três produtores culturais e quatro surdos. Após as análises das recorrências e dissonâncias nas narrativas dos participantes, foi possível compreender que a natureza do corpo tradutório é múltipla, orgânica, processual, dinâmica e dialógica e que a presença e a ação do corpo tradutório no teatro mobilizam, tensionam e aproximam os repertórios dos sistemas que compõem o polissistema de tradução de Libras no teatro.

Abstract: This thesis aims to understand the nature of the translational?s body, describing its constitution and clarifying the relationship between the translational body and the other systems that compose the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) translation polysystem in theatrical settings. The specific objectives of this research are: a) to investigate the way in which Sign Language Translators/Interpreters ? [in Portuguese, TILSP] work with Libras translation and interpreting in the theater; b) to analyze, from the TILSP? narratives and discourses, the processes they establish to translate and interpret into Libras in the theatrical setting; c) to establish the relationship between Libras translation and interpreting and the other systems involved in the translation polysystem in theatrical settings, based on Polysystem Theory. The study is situated in the field of Translation Studies but is also influenced by the epistemological fields of Cultural Studies, Deaf Studies and Theater Studies. We also problematize aspects related to accessibility policies, regarding the existence of a perception that Libras translation/interpreting is understood as an accessibility resource contemplated by Brazilian legislation for accessibility and culture incentive. In this work, the Polysystem Theory offers a theoretical framework to reflect upon the translation process of literary texts ? a genre that is frequently presented in theater? taking into consideration the cultural contexts involved in the translation process. The concept of translational body, its constitution and its role on the translation polysystem in theatrical settings is contextualized by the theoretical perspective of Even-Zohar?s Polysystem Theory. The central thesis presented here is that Libras translation/interpreting in theatrical settings takes place through the TILSP body ? here, as a system ? that, in theater, mediates and mobilizes the other systems that compose the polysystem of theater translation in Libras. The translational body, in this thesis, is understood primarily as the TILSP? physical body, but also as a construct that is established through the approximation of cultural systems and their repertoires, and, through the mobilization of knowledge and information within the systems involved in the polysystem. The distancing or tensioning between the systems affects the process of an effective construction of the translational body, becoming a de-corporified translation, that is, a translation carried out by the TILSP, but given the systems? interference, it takes place notwithstanding this interference, in a space of non-meaning, rather than a translation that takes place from the construction of textual and esthetical senses of the theatrical performance, and is therefore considered in this thesis as a corporified translation. We conducted semi-structured interviews with nine Libras translators/interpreters with experience in the theatrical setting, with three cultural producers and four Deaf people. After the analyses of recurrences and dissonances of the participants? narratives, we argue that the nature of the translational body is multiple, organic, processual, dynamic and dialogical, and, that the presence and action of the translational body mobilizes, stretches, tightens and brings closer the range of systems that compose the polysystem of theater translation in Libras.
