Title: Processos de lexificalização vs. empréstimo recente no guineense
Esses dados evidenciam padrões fonológicos regulares do guineense. Abstract: This research aims to investigate the phonological processes involved in the historical formation of the guineense between the 16th and 17th centuries through the lexificalization of basic vocabulary originating from archaic European Portuguese and the incorporation of more recent loanwords from modern Portuguese and English. Thus, these words are phonologically adapted to guineense system, revealing the linguistic dynamics that shape its lexical structure over time. One of the objectives of this study is to understand the phonetic-phonological methods involved in lexfiicalization and recent borrowing, contributing to a broader understanding of phonological aspects of guineense. Guineense is a Portuguese-lexified creole language of Guinea-Bissau that formed in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, from contact between Atlantic African languages of the Niger-Congo subfamily and Portuguese, whose lexicon is composed of approximately 80% Portuguese-based items (Scantamburlo, 2013). Lexificalization refers to the incorporation of basic terms that integrate the lexical core of the new language. These words are not associated with situations of recent linguistic contact, but an initial stage in the formation of that language, as is the case with guineense or any creole language. Linguistic borrowing/nativization, on the other hand, is a process by which lexical units from a foreign language are incorporated into the lexicon of a receiving language and occurs after the consolidation of the linguistic system of the receiving language. This phenomenon can serve different motivations, such as the replacement of existing lexical items or, more frequently, the filling of vocabulary gaps in areas that demand the naming of new concepts, objects, or sociocultural practices (Carvalho, 1989; Paradis, 1996; Faraco, 2001). The methodological approach of the investigation is qualitative and quantitative, combining Contact Linguistics and Historical Sociolinguistics to analyze the phonological phenomena of guineense. The first area helps to understand the restructuring of language in environments of interaction between linguistic communities, while the second allows us to trace the evolution of language through historical records. Generative Phonology is used to formalize the rules of phonological adaptation. The corpus consists of 432 vocabulary items collected from the Swadesh List, Scantamburlo?s (2002) Dictionary of Guinean Creole, and written records of oral productions by native speakers of guineense in Bissau, comprising 206 basic vocabulary words-Group 1 and 226 recent loanwords-Group 2. The results highlight the patterns of phonological processes occurring in lexfiicafilized items and recent borrowings in guineense, showing that many modes are common to the two groups analyzed, while others differentiate them. Suppression methods are the most productive, especially apheresis, syncope, and apocope, which mainly affect unstressed segments and final consonants, favoring open syllables. Insertion processes occur less frequently and function as articulatory facilitation strategies, such as vowel prosthesis and epenthesis, with paragoge being exclusive to Group 2. Among the segmental change techniques shared by the groups are metathesis, monophthongization, affricativization of /?/, maintenance of /t?/, and vowel raising. Some phenomena are exclusive to Group 1, such as nasalization, denasalization, and fortition of /?/, while Group 2 presents reduction of long vowels and occlusalization of interdental fricatives. These data show regular phonological patterns in guineense. Together, these processes define the syllabic structure of the language, favoring the predominance of simple patterns (CV, CVC, CCV, and V), which highlights the phonological regularities of guineense
