Planning of the Institute of Arts and Design’s material library: proposition of guidelines and structuring of sample cataloging

Abstract

Este trabalho aborda aspectos que definem a criação de materiotecas e apresenta o processo de implementação de uma materioteca acadêmica do Instituto de Artes e Design na Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora. A metodologia contempla uma etapa de revisão de literatura acerca da estruturação e do funcionamento de materiotecas e da relevância destes acervos no ensino e prática de design; uma etapa de relato de caso, com apresentação do processo de criação da materioteca acadêmica; e etapas de análise e síntese dos resultados. A discussão dos resultados evidencia a efetividade das diretrizes definidas para a catalogação, a qual organiza e diferencia as amostras, além de possibilitar a ampliação e a diversificação do acervo. Finalmente, entende-se que o acesso à materioteca pode contribuir para a formação acadêmica de forma flexível, experimental e intuitiva, considerando o uso didático e a possibilidade de contato sensorial com os materiais.

This research addresses the aspects that define the creation of material libraries and presents the process for implementing an academic material library in the Institute of Arts and Design at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. The methodology includes a literature review stage about the structuring and functioning of material libraries and the relevance of these collections in the teaching and practice of design; a case report stage, presenting the process of creating the academic material library; and stages of analysis and synthesis of results. The results discussion shows the effectiveness of the guidelines defined for cataloging, which organizes and differentiates the samples, in addition to enabling the expansion and diversification of the collection. Finally, it is evidenced that the access to the material library can contribute to academic training in a flexible, experimental and intuitive way, considering the didactic use and the possibility of sensorial contact with the materials
