Author: Konkol, Ana Caroline Basniak
Linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) is a winter, autogamous and diploid crop (2n = 2x = 30 chromosomes) belonging to the Linaceae family that has a dual production purpose. In Brazil, the culture was introduced in the 17th century and was produced on a large scale, using Canadian, Argentine and Brazilian cultivars, until the break caused by the entry of oil products into the paint and textile industry. The increased demand for grains in Brazil, and for being an alternative for crop diversification in winter, there is a need for superior genotypes, especially for the traits of maturation and grain yield. In view of this, the present study aimed to test the efficiency of the method of selecting pure golden linseed lines. The study lasted three years. In 2017, in the municipality of Zortéa, 100 plants were selected phenotypically and harvested individually in a commercial field. Of these, 73 lines, plus control, were selected to be evaluated in the year 2018. The experiment was implemented in the Experimental Area of UFSC Curitibanos, through a randomized block design. For 2019, 37 lines were selected, plus control, which were evaluated in a similar way. The traits evaluated in the field experiments were: days for emergence (DE), initial stand (IS), days for beginning of flowering (DFBF), days for 50% of flowering (D50F), days for end of flowering (DFEF), days to maturity (DM), final stand (FS), plant height (PH), technical length (TL), productive length (PL), diameter of the main branch (DMB), diameter of the secondary branch (DSB), number of secondary branches (NSB), number of capsules per plant (NCAP), weight of a thousand seeds (W1000), productivity per plant (PRODPL) and productivity per area (PRODA). The data obtained from each year of evaluation were separated and jointly for analysis of variance by the F test by the GENES program, as well as being assigned as indicators of genetic parameters. In 2018, the traits of significance were: DPE, DFBF, PH, TL, NCAP, PRODPL and PRODA. In 2019, DFBF, D50F, PH, TL, DMB and W1000 were relevant. The current existing difference proves the efficiency in the selection, because on average, all the lines surpassed the control. For 2018, the traits that obtained the highest heritability were DFBF, PH, TL, PRODPL and PRODA, ranging from 0.65 to 0.91. In 2019, DFBF, D50F, PH, TL, DMB andWP1000 had high heritability coefficients, ranging from 0.66 to 0.91. High values of heritability demonstrate the possibility of gain with the selection. The reduction in the heritability values for PRODA and the increase in the mean is an expected result since the selection of potential strains is made based on productivity. For the joint analysis, the significant traist for the ambiental effectwere: DFBF and PRODPL. This demonstrates that the strains showed a differential behavior in the years of evaluation and that the superior lines in one year were not the same as in the other year for these traits. Finally, the selection gain for PRODA was estimated. The genetic gain obtained for PRODA in 2018 stood out, with a gain of 389 kg ha-1 (37.95%). In 2019, the gains realized were smaller (87 kg ha-1) than observed in 2018, representing 3.13% of gain. For the joint analysis, the estimated gain was 72.6 kg ha-1, representing 4.28%. It was possible to observe variability for the traits evaluated in the golden linseed lines through heritability estimates and through genetic gains, thus proving the efficiency of the selection method of pure lines.
