The search for productivity increases in the soybean crop is constant, and the characteristics associated to the photosynthetic metabolism of the crop have been well studied. The main aspects addressed in the study of the metabolism of soybean plants under stress conditions seek to understand the effect of stress situations, such as drought, shading or even defoliation, demonstrating that the reduction in the photosynthetic potential of the crop limits its productivity. However, little is known about the responses of soybean plants in an environment that could potentially increase their photosynthetic activity. In this sense, the objective of this work was to study the productive behavior of soybean plants submitted to the increase of radiation intake during their reproductive period. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design, under field conditions, in the 2017/18 harvest, using soybean cultivar NA5909RR. The treatments consisted of the opening of one or both lateral lines of a cultivation line, at a 45º angle, in the full flowering stages (R2) and grain filling (R5). The lines remained open until the end of the crop cycle. The lines were opened with the aid of cuttings and wire wires, aiming to increase the entrance of solar radiation in the canopy of the plants, without altering the competition for water and nutrients in relation to the lateral lines, since the lateral plants continued their development. Each plot was composed of a cultivation line, one meter long, spaced 0.4 meters in relation to the lateral lines. At the end of the crop cycle, the components of the production of the plants were evaluated by dividing the plant in the lower and upper portions. The number of pods, grains and grain mass per plant were affected by the treatments tested, especially the treatments where the two lines were opened in the R2 stage. These results indicate that soybean plants can benefit, in terms of productivity, from the increase in radiation available throughout the canopy.
