Estudo paratradutológico para a análise da ironia em duas traduções de Windows on the world de Frédéric Beigbeder

Abstract

Trata-se de comparar duas traduções do romance Windows on the world de Frédéric Beigbeder (2003), originalmente lançado em língua francesa pela Éditions Grasset & Fasquelle. A primeira tradução concerne à língua inglesa, da Miramax (2004),com tradução de Frank Wynne. A segunda, refere-se à tradução para o português brasileiro, publicada pela Editora Record (2005), com tradução de André Telles. As análises se desenvolvem à luz da noção de tradução & paratradução de YusteFrías (2010), cujas bases remetem ao trabalho de André Lefevere (1992).Por um lado, discutem-se restrições, apagamentos e alterações aplicadas sobre o texto francês.Por outro lado, busca-se clarificar, através da análise de casos, razões político-editoriais que, eventualmente, tenham convidado os referidos tradutores aexercerem voz ativa, modificando o conteúdo de algumas cenas.A narrativa proposta por Beigbeder alude ao trágico evento ocorrido em 11 de setembro de 2001, em Nova York, e embora à época o fato parecesse suficientemente discutido, eis que através da ficção literária surgem novas possibilidades. Beigbeder evoca um evento que se tornou sensível para os estadunidenses em função de sua tragicidade, permeando seus textos com exacerbadas doses de humor negro, ironia e sarcasmo. O humor, como recurso discursivo para tratar de temas sérios, permite suavizar a gravidade das proposições. Entretanto, cada cultura explicita, em sua língua, seus interesses editoriais, mercadológicos e políticos. Como suporte teórico-metodológico recorreu-se a perspectivas conceituais sobre ironia/humor, discutidas por Douglas Muecke (1970) e Wayne Booth (1974). Finalmente, apresentam-se alguns argumentos do próprio Beigbeder diante de perguntas a ele lançadas no âmbito desta pesquisa.

Abstract : This thesis aims at comparing two translations of the novel Windows on the World by Frédéric Beigbeder (2003), which was originally launched in French by Éditions Grasset and Fasquelle. The first concerns the version in English, by Miramax (2004), with translation by Frank Wynne. The second refers to the translation into Brazilian Portuguese by André Telles, published by Editora Record (2004). The analyses develop in the light of the notion of translation and paratranslation by Yuste Frías (2010), based on the work of André Lefervere (1992). On one hand, restrictions, weakening and alterations applied to the text in French are discussed. On the other hand, political-editorial reasons which eventually led the translators to use an active voice and manipulate the content of some of the scenes are clarified through an analysis of the cases. The narrative by Beigbeder alludes to the tragic event which occurred on September 11, 2001 in New York and, although at the time the fact appeared to have been discussed sufficiently, it is through literary fiction that new possibilities emerge. Beigbeder evokes an event which became sensitive for the North Americans because of the extent of the tragedy, filling his text with passionate doses of black humor, and a lot of irony and sarcasm. The use of humor, as a discursive resource to deal with serious themes, enables us to tone down the gravity of the propositions. However, each culture reflects in their language editorial, commercial and political interests. As theoretical-methodological support we resorted to conceptual perspectives of irony/humor, discussed by Douglas Muecke (1970) and Wayne Booth. Finally some points made by Beigbeder in reply to questions submitted to him in the context of this research are presented.
