Abstract:

The common bean is the primary source of vegetable protein used in human food daily. With the increasing demand for food, genetic breeding programs seek to select productive plants to meet this demand. Emphasizing the importance of germplasm banks. The lack of characterization of accesses in germplasm banks, in general, makes the use of genetic variability by breeders unfeasible. Thus, it is important that the accessions are described, based on their morpho-agronomic characteristics. Local bean varieties are a source of genetic variability and as such must be characterized for use. Thus, the objective of the present research was to characterize 13 local bean varieties based on morpho-agronomic characters such as: color of the flower, leaf pilosity, growth type, stem diameter, leaf length and width, plant height and first pod insertion, pod length, 100 seed mass, seed mass per plant, length, width and thickness of the seed. The work was conducted in 2018, in the Agricultural Experimental Area of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Curitibanos Campus. Variability among the local varieties was observed for plant height, growth type, stem diameter, first pod insertion height and pod length, pod width and thickness, which are important information for systems using mechanized harvesting. The mean and variance data observed within the plot demonstrated the variability that occurs within the bean varieties, characterizing heterogeneous genotypes with selectable variability. |
