Dos princípios da literatura, de Ugo Foscolo: uma tradução comentada

Abstract

Este trabalho consiste em uma tradução comentada do ensaio De principj della letteratura, de Ugo Foscolo (1778-1827). Trata-se de um texto elaborado em 1808 para a aula que daria um ano mais tarde na Università di Pavia. A influência do mundo clássico e dos preceitos iluministas modernos, que percorriam a Itália no período pós Revolução Francesa, desempenham um papel fundamental na escrita de Foscolo e conferem ao ensaio características dos movimentos literários neoclássico e romântico. Decorrente do envolvimento com as questões políticas e culturais do seu tempo, Foscolo divulga na aula pavese valores literários que ressaltam a eloquência e a utilidade à pátria. Tendo em vista a importância da eloquência, a tradução utilizou, como referencial teórico, Henri Meschonnic (2010) e Antoine Berman (2002; 2012), que partem de uma concepção de texto que não separa a forma do sentido, mas se atem ao discurso. O trabalho está dividido em três capítulos: no primeiro foi feita uma contextualização literária e histórica da obra foscoliana, no segundo foi incluída a tradução do ensaio De principj della letteratura, e nos comentários da tradução foram observados os seguintes pontos: sintaxe, pontuação, léxico e notas.<br>

Abstract : This work consists of an annotated translation of the essay De' principj della letteratura, from Ugo Foscolo (1778-1827). It is a text written in 1808 to the lesson that he would give a year later at the Università di Pavia. The influence of the classical world and modern Enlightenment precepts, that were flowing through Italy in the post French Revolution period, play a key role in the Foscolo s writings and gives to the essay characteristics of neoclassical and romantic literary movements. Due to the involvement in the political and cultural issues of his time, Foscolo discloses in the pavese lesson literary values that emphasize the eloquence and the usefulness to the fatherland. Recognizing the importance of eloquence, the translation has used as theoretical references, Henri Meschonnic and Antoine Berman, who start from a conception of text that does not separate the form of the sense, but sticks to the speech. The study is divided into three chapters: in the first one a literary and a historical context of Foscolo s writings was made, in the second one is included the translation of the essay De principj della letteratura and in the translation`s comments the next points were observed: syntax, punctuation, lexicon and notes.
