This study aimed to characterize descriptive and illustrative manner the phenological
stages of garlic crop and determine its development cycle in calendar days and in degree
days (thermal time). The work was conducted at UFSC / Curitibanos, from May 30 to
February 28, 2015. The experimental design was randomized blocks with split plots,
totaling 88 experimental units (3 cultivars x 2 vernalizations x 4 planting dates x 4
repetitions each). The development stages were characterized: dormancy, induction,
vegetative and reproductive. The cycle duration of the treatments varied, both in degreedays as the course of the day times, showing that the thermal time method is not the most
suitable for determining the duration of the crop cycle. The final leaf number ranged
between 13 and 17 sheets in the analyzed treatments. The cultivars had dry matter
accumulation rates between different end of planting season, being higher in treatments
of the planting dates and 1 smaller in times 2, 3 and 4 respectively. The moment of
greatest mass accumulation in the bulb came from the R4 stage (bulbils occupying 3/4 or
75% of total bulb area), with the fall of the mass accumulation curve of the leaves, with
the fall of the mass accumulation curve of the leaves. |
