Author: Rosa, Gislena Maria Duarte
As a result, knowledge proceeds in a content-focused, fragmented, and propaedeutic manner across different levels of education. In light of this, the thematic approach grounded in Paulo Freire (ATF) constitutes a theoretical-methodological perspective of dialogical-problematizing education, one that permeates recognized contributions to basic education and teacher education. These practices are guided by thematic investigation and its ramifications, which stem from the inputs it has received over the years, such as the perspective of ethical-critical education and the theoretical-methodological dynamics of the Three Pedagogical Moments. Within the relationship between the ATF and teacher education, this study seeks to understand what contributions the ATF makes to the professional development of teacher educators in Natural Sciences Education. Thus, this research was conducted through searches in indexing databases and an analysis of the field's literature relating the ATF to teacher education, which yielded 212 articles. Next, a focused selection was made, targeting works of an empirical nature, totaling 34 articles, which were analyzed through Discursive Textual Analysis (ATD), comprising three stages: i) unitarization, ii) categorization, and iii) communication. The analysis resulted in four emergent categories: i) the student context as an object of reflection in Science teacher education; ii) teacher education and the systematized knowledge of the ATF within the scope of Science Education; iii) the interaction between basic and higher education teachers toward an understanding of reality from the perspective of the ATF, within the scope of Science Education; and iv) teacher educators in the field of Science Education and practice from the perspective of the ATF. These results pointed to the need to engage in dialogue with teacher educators in the field who work with the ATF perspective. This interlocution took place through semi-structured interviews with five teacher educators, which were transcribed and also subjected to the ATD procedures. As a result, one emergent category and seven emergent subcategories were identified, in addition to the a priori categories, based on the theoretical framework grounded in Freire: limit situations and untested feasibilities. The limit situations are: i) the relationship between higher education and basic education in teacher education, in the development of practices based on the ATF; ii) the theoretical-methodological difficulties in the development of the ATF in the field of Science Education, drawing on the experience of teacher educators; iii) interdisciplinarity and collective work in practices developed from the perspective of the ATF; iv) the difficulties related to the school context in activities developed on the basis of the ATF, within the process of educating Natural Sciences teachers in basic education; and v) the organization and teaching of scientific knowledge through a content-focused approach. The untested feasibilities, in turn, are: i) the practice of teacher educators grounded in the students' reality; and ii) practice associated with the ATF and the professional development of teacher educators in the field of Science Education. The emergent category was titled: the professional development of teacher educators: theoretical-practical affinities with the perspective of the ATF in the teaching trajectory. It is worth highlighting that the movement of praxis, arising from teacher educators' practice within the perspective of the ATF and in the context of ongoing teacher education, contributes to the professional development of teacher educators.
