Abstract: This dissertation investigates, in the high-energy regime, the exclusive production of dijets in ultraperipheral collisions, as well as their azimuthal correlation function. The central goal is to analyze these observables, since they can be sensitive to the spatial distribution of quarks and gluons, as well as to parton?parton correlations under extreme conditions. Such effects are connected to fundamental questions in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), including confinement, hadronization, and the interaction of color charges with nuclear matter. To provide the necessary theoretical basis, this work reviews the main ingredients required for the analysis, including elements of the Standard Model (SM) and QCD, Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS), structure functions, and evolution equations in high-energy physics, emphasizing the role of gluon saturation at small x. Within the phenomenology of heavy-ion collisions, we discuss kinematics, centrality, and geometry through the Glauber model, as well as collective observables and azimuthal correlations. In the small-x regime, the color-dipole approach and the Glauber?Gribov model are presented as a framework to describe multiple interactions, with a view toward applications to exclusive processes in dijet photoproduction. Our results for azimuthal correlation function show that this observable is genuinely sensitive to the details of partonic saturation dynamics in photon?proton collisions, and that the dipole-amplitude parametrizations IP-Sat, bCGC, and GBW yield distinguishable predictions. For the photon?nucleus case in ultraperipheral collisions?where medium effects are expected to play a minor role?our Glauber?Gribov computations suggest that suppression phenomena cannot be explained solely by initial-state saturation effects in the diffractive channel. Finally, we place the relevance of these studies in the context of measurements at the future Electron?Ion Collider (EIC), where two-particle correlations may provide new information on the three-dimensional nuclear structure, since they depend on the gluon transverse-momentum distribution. A further extension is to investigate how azimuthal correlation function is affected by medium-induced effects, such as jet quenching in the quark?gluon plasma, and to disentangle that contribution from initial-state effects, such as those studied in this work. |
