Abstract: This paper aimed for the investigation of translation strategies of cultural elements of the audiovisual perspective of humor in five scenes of different shorts from the animated cartoon Woody Woodpecker in the Brazilian and Hispanic American translation contexts, and their implications for the comical narratives of the scenes, based on the identification of the existing Cultural-Specific Items (CSIs) (Aixelá, 2013) in the American original versions, and the categorization of existing Humorous Elements (Martínez-Sierra, 2004) in the jokes from the original and dubbed versions. The analyses revealed that both translation contexts resorted to various strategies to translate the dynamic diversity of all detected CSIs in all five scenes, with a special emphasis to certain strategies deemed as prevalent in the corpus, such as those of repetition, deletion and naturalization. The findings also revealed a tendency for Hispanic American translations to resort more often to conservative strategies when compared to Brazilian translations? strategies which, in turn, tend to lean more towards domesticating ones, in particular, those of autonomous creation, as seen in one of the analysed scenes, and of one such extraordinarily new strategy labeled ?neologism?, since it does not correspond to any strategy outlined by the theoretical current used to carry out the analyses. Regarding all Humorous Elements detected in the three versions of the five scenes analysed, it is clear to say that visual, paralinguistic, sound and non-marked elements tend to be preserved in all dubbed versions, since their independent structures are easily understood after the transfer process by the target-culture telespectator, given the absence of any cultural references in their contents. However, certain other humorous loads, such as Community-and-Institution elements and Community-Sense-of-Humor elements are more prone to being obscure to most target-culture telespectators, given that the former is virtually tied to CSIs of the source-culture, and the latter relies on the understanding of specific topics and issues deemed popular by a usually small amount of people (i.e. inside jokes), even though it should be noted that most of these elements are still maintained after translation in all dubbed versions. Nevertheless, it should be made explicit that it is not mandatory to identify all humorous elements in a given scene in order to understand its comedic narrative, since some humorous loads are part of can be understood as ?sideline jokes?, that is, jokes that are not part of the structure of the main comedic narrative, therefore, not being essential to its understanding, featuring a scenario of a \"hierarchy of jokes?. However, identifying all existing humorous loads in a given comedic narrative may provide a rewarding and delightful experience to the perceptive telespectator, as it highlights the creativity and depth of the comedic narrative.
