Escrita e tradição oral indígena: tradução comentada de Breath tracks de Jeannette Armstrong

Abstract

Este trabalho tem como objetivo geral apresentar a tradução da obra poética Breath Tracks (1991) de Jeannette Armstrong, particularmente do bloco temático intitulado History Lesson. Nessa perspectiva, os objetivos específicos para este trabalho são: a tradução comentada dos poemas do bloco temático History Lesson do livro Breath Tracks (1991) para a Língua Portuguesa e a análise de base interpretativa da oralidade presente nos poemas do bloco. Esta pesquisa busca examinar de que forma a autora poetizou, na sua obra, certos acontecimentos da história dos povos ameríndios no século XX na América do Norte, mais especificamente no Canadá. A autora, aqui apresentada, é proveniente da Nação Okanagan que faz parte do povo das Primeiras Nações de nativos norte-americanos, cujo território tradicional abrange a fronteira entre Canadá e Estados Unidos da América, já que com a chegada do homem branco, sofreu as consequências impostas pela colonização europeia, além do choque cultural-religioso, que também é um dos temas desse trabalho. Considerando a obra de Armstrong como espaço de enunciação de uma resistência cultural que vai além dos limites tribais, opta-se por adotar uma perspectiva sustentada por Niranjana (1992), Spivak (1998), Stuart Hall (2003), Friesen (2000, 2005) e Aldred; Aldred-Shull (2019). Ademais, são de suma importância os diálogos com alguns nomes da crítica indígena como Lee Maracle (2007), Graça Graúna (2013), Winona Stevenson (1998) e Robert Warrior (2014). Para a tradução comentada da poesia do bloco temático em questão ampara-se nos teóricos: Henri Meschonnic (1999), Paulo Henriques Britto (2011, 2012), Bernd Stefanink e Ioana Balacescu (2017). Intenta-se, assim, verificar como a resistência ameríndia toma corpo na escrita de Armstrong, através da tradução, que constrói uma narrativa complexa e de imensa relevância social.

Abstract: This work has as general objective to present the translation of the poetic work Breath Tracks (1991) by Jeannette Armstrong, particularly from the thematic block entitled History Lesson. From this perspective, the specific objectives for this work are the commented translation of the poems of the thematic block History Lesson from the book Breath Tracks (1991) for the Portuguese language and the interpretative basis analysis of the orality present in the poems of the block. This research seeks to examine how the author poetized, in her work, certain events in the history of amerindian peoples in the twentieth century in North America, more specifically in Canada. The author, presented here, comes from the Okanagan Nation that is part of the First Nations people of Native Americans, whose traditional territory covers the border between Canada and the United States of America, since with the arrival of the white man, suffered the consequences imposed by European colonization, in addition to the cultural-religious shock, which is also one of the themes of this work. Considering Armstrong's work as a space for enunciation of a cultural resistance that goes beyond tribal boundaries, one chooses to adopt a perspective supported by Niranjana (1992), Spivak (1998), Stuart Hall (2003), Friesen (2000, 2005) and Aldred; Aldred-Shull (2019). In addition, dialogues with some names of indigenous critics such as Lee Maracle (2007), Graça Graúna (2013), Winona Stevenson (1998) and Robert Warrior (2014) are of paramount importance. For the commented translation of the poetry of the thematic block in question, the theorists are based on thefollowing: Henri Meschonnic (1999), Paulo Henriques Britto (2011, 2012), Bernd Stefanink and Ioana Balacescu (2017). Thus, it is necessary to verify how the Amerindian resistance takes shape in Armstrong's writing, through translation, which builds a complex narrative of immense social relevance.
