May Ayim e a tradução de poesia afrodiaspórica de língua alemã

Abstract

A presente dissertação traz 12 poemas selecionados do livro Blues in Schwarz Weiss (Blues em Preto e Branco) de 1995, da poeta e ativista antirracista afro-alemã May Ayim (Hamburgo 1960 Berlim 1996), além de suas respectivas traduções comentadas para o português brasileiro. A obra lírica de Ayim é ainda pouco lida e estudada na academia, especialmente sob um viés estético, permanecendo, muitas vezes, em círculos ativistas alemães, principalmente de mulheres Negras. Tendo em vista esse quadro, o presente trabalho visa, através das traduções, apresentar ao Brasil a poeta, sua obra e ativismo político localizando-os na Filologia Alemã e na produção estética Negra vernacular em diáspora, ou no que se chamou Atlântico Negro . No presente trabalho são, então, esboçados contextos estéticos, históricos e políticos Negros germanofònicos e sua tradução é localizada em contexto afro-brasileiro. Por isso, tornou-se indispensável a tradução ao português brasileiro de poemas e trechos de ensaios de Ayim e de outras afro-alemãs, além do exercício crítico acerca do processo tradutório e suas relações de poder, com ênfase em como estas se dão entre estéticas e subjetividades Negras (aqui: poesia, tradução e teoria). Esse estudo é, portanto, embasado pelos Estudos da Tradução e pelos Estudos Culturais e busca causar interferência no que Carlos Moore (2007; 2008) chamou de epistemologia do racismo , desvelando uma epistemologia afrodiaspórica apreendida em procedimentos culturais (PEREIRA, 2016), além de esboçar uma metodologia antirracista de tradução de textos de autoria e/ou de temática Nagra. Tais procedimentos e episteme afrodiaspóricos são resultados, por sua vez, de contatos e relações entre culturas, são Poética da Relação (GLISSANT, 2011), conceito-chave para o fazer tradutório aqui apresentado.

Abstract : This thesis studies 12 poems selected from the book Blues in Schwarz Weiss (Blues in Black and White), published in 1995 and written by the Afro-German poet and anti-racist activist May Ayim (Hamburg 1960-Berlin 1996). It also includes the translation of those selected poems into Brazilian Portuguese. Ayim s lyrical work is seldom read and studied within the academy, especially under in a way that takes into account the poems as literature pieces. Her work mostly remains in German activist circles, especially those of Black women. Given these circumstances, the present study aims to introduce the poet s work and political activism to the Brazilian public through translation. It locates Ayim s work in relation to German Philology as well as within the vernacular aesthetic production of the Black Diaspora, also known as the Black Atlantic. This thesis outlines aesthetic, historical and political Black Germanophone contexts and locates their translations in the Afro-Brazilian context. Translating poems and essays excerpted from Ayim and other Afro-Germans into Brazilian Portuguese has become indispensable, along with an analysis of the critical exercise of the translation process and the power relations within it. This research emphasizes how these relations are intertwined with Black aesthetics and subjectivities (namely poetry, translation and theory). This study is thus informed by Translation Studies and Cultural Studies. It seeks to cause interference in what Carlos Moore called the epistemology of racism, (2007, 2008) revealing an afrodiasporic epistemology seized in cultural procedures (Pereira, 2016), as well as outlining an anti-racist methodology for translating Black texts. Such afrodiasporic procedures and epistemologies are the results of contact and relations between cultures. In this way, they present a poetics of relation (Glissant, 2011), which is another key concept informing the analysis and the translations presented here.
