Paratradução do humor em Fipps der Affe de Wilhelm Busch

Abstract

Expõe-se, nesta tese, processos de paratradução & tradução de excertos selecionados de Fipps der Affe (1879) de Wilhelm Busch, cuja narrativa se caracteriza por sua natureza politextual, ou seja, texto linguístico e iconotexto em simbiose. Por um lado, investigam-se componentes textuais presentes nos excertos enfatizados; por outro lado, examinam-se rastros, pistas, fragmentos enquanto índices paratextuais, isto é, peritextos e epitextos. O caráter multissemiótico da narrativa de Fipps der Affe conduziu à seleção de modelos teórico-metodológicos de cunho inter-, pluri- e transdisciplinar, que caracterizam as propostas de Genette (1982, 1987, 2009), cujas bases foram aperfeiçoadas por Yuste Frías (2010, 2014) com vistas aos Estudos da Tradução. Por se tratar de um texto marcado por humor ácido e Schadenfreude, as análises também tomam por base as teorias de Bergson (2001), Propp (1992), Escarpit (1976), Evrard (1996), entre outros, que dissertam sobre humor, ironia e riso. Os estudos e análises se desenvolvem à aura da noção de paratradução, conduzindo necessariamente a abordagens de cunho dialógico (Bakhtin, 2008) e intertextual (Kristeva, 1974, 1976; Barthes, 1973/2010; Adam, 1985; Riffaterre, 1979). Paralelamente, propõe-se dois ensaios de tradução, (i) um em prosa sobre o texto completo; (ii) outro parcial, em verso, ambos exercícios que permitiram abordar e compreender parte da complexidade do texto artístico-literário de Wilhelm Busch, que o pautam como um dos precursores das Histórias em Quadrinhos modernas. De modo breve, o syllabus desta tese evita modelos binaristas e opositivos que, em certo sentido, estratificam semioses, chocando-se com o caráter intrinsecamente híbrido da arte sequencial politextual e, por extensão, de seu estudo. Finalmente, acredita-se haver comprovado a importância de se paratraduzir paratextos para melhor traduzir textos.

Abstract : This dissertation deals with Paratranslation & Translation processes of selected excerpts from Wilhelm Busch s Fipps der Affe (1879), whose narrative is characterized by its polytextual nature, i.e., linguistic text and icon text in symbiotic interaction. On the one hand, textual components present in the emphasized excerpts are investigated, and on the other, traces, clues, fragments as paratextual indices are examined, i.e., peritext and epitext. The multisemiotic character of Fipps der Affe s narrative led to the selection of inter-, pluri- and transdisciplinary theoretical-methodological models that characterize the proposals of Genette (1982, 1987, 2009), whose bases were refined by Yuste Frías (2010, 2014) for the purpose of applying them to Translation Studies. Given that the text is marked by acid humor and Schadenfreude, the analyses are also based on the theories of Bergson (2001), Propp (1992), Escarpit (1976), Evrard (1996), among others which deal with the notion of paratranslation leading necessarily to dialogical (Bakhtin, 2008) and intertextual (Kristeva, 1974, 1976, Barthes, 1973/2010, Adam, 1985 and Riffaterre, 1979) approaches. At the same time, two translation essays are proposed, (i) one in prose of the complete text; (ii) and another in verse, although partial. Both exercises allowed to approach and understand part of the complexity of the artistic-literary text of Wilhelm Busch, which is considered one of the predecessors of Comic Books. The syllabus of this dissertation avoids binary and oppositional models, which, in a sense, stratify semioses, clashing with the intrinsically hybrid character of the sequential polytextual arts and, by extension, with its study. Finally, it is here believed to have proved the importance of paratranslating texts to better translate texts.
