The study of alternative species such as linseed has been increasingly explored in agricultural production, and may become an alternative in the winter for seed production, plant cover and crop rotation. The objective of this work was to verify the influence of temperature and photoperiod in the developmental cycle of linseed, characterizing phenology and thermal requirement in different agroecosystems in Southern Brazil. The experiments were carried out in Curitibanos, Rio do Sul, Herval D'Oeste, Ronda Alta and Palmitos in the year 2016. The genotypes used were Agurá INTA, Caburé INTA, Brown and Golden, cultivated in three sowing seasons in April, May and June. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with five blocks per genotype. The meteorological data were obtained from Epagri Ciram and INMET stations. For determining the occurrence of the phenological stages twenty plants were marked by genotype. Developmental evaluations were carried out in order to identify the emergency stages, floral bud, beginning of flowering and harvesting. The thermal requirement of linseed was calculated using thermal accumulation from emergence to harvest, as well as for each phase. Chilling data were collected using temperatures between 2°C and 10°C. The photoperiod was calculated with latitude and solar declination. Flax productivity was calculated using the yield components. The cumulative volume of rainfall was higher in the first season and lower in the third season, being on average 5 mm/day. The maximum air temperature ranged from 7.7°C in winter to 35.8°C in spring. The minimum air temperature (Tmin) was - 3.8°C to 23°C, observed the lowest Tmin in Curitibanos. The amount of effective chilling accumulated until flowering for linseed in different agroecosystems varied between 990 hours in Curitibanos and 317 hours in Palmitos. The analysis performed in the experiments did not show a relation between cumulative chilling hours and the duration of the development phases of plants. The longest cycle was 2262.6°C day or 193 days in Rio do Sul and the shortest 1707.2°C day or 153 days in Herval D'Oeste. The presence of a negative linear relationship between air temperature and duration of developmental stages indicates that the decrease in air temperature determines the increase in cycle length for the four genotypes. The genotypes bloomed in photoperiod of 11h and 12h. The productivity varied between 0.5 and 2.6 t ha-1 . Due to the soil-climatic potential found in the Southern region of Brazil, especially in the Cfb climate, the introduction of linseed will allow the cultivation of an alternative species for the winter-spring period.
