Plant neurobiology, or plant systemic ecophysiology, is a very recent discipline within the biological sciences that aims to study plants from a systemic paradigm, recognizing them as complex beings, actives and dynamics on their struggle for survival in an ever-changing environment. Within this area, the studies on plant intelligence can be highlighted, which have many ramifications, such as the study of plant learning and communication. On this work, it was tried to investigate these two aspects of intelligence in sensitive plants (Mimosa pudica L.). The experiment was designed to find out if a behaviour that was learned by one plant is transmitted to others on the same population. Hence, plants were divided in three treatments: Shadow, Light, and Control at light. Each treatment had five rows of pots with young sensitive plants, and each row was composed by one plant that received a training (T; except Control, that did not receive the training), which was placed on the middle, two plants that were sharing the pots by the roots in one line with the T plant, and two that did not share the pots with any other plant. Throughout 24h a series of training stimuli (to slide a glass stick through the leaflets) were delivered to the T plants until they have learned by habituation to ignore it, and next, the same stimulus was delivered to the other plants and their responses were observed. The parameters utilized to evaluate the reaction of the plants were the degree of leaflet opening, measured in percentage, and the reaction time of the leaflets, measured in seconds. It was concluded that sensitive plants in stressful conditions learn faster than plants in less favourable environments, something previously verified in earlier studies, which corroborate them. In which regard the transmission of the learned behaviour, the results were inconclusive, and more repetitions with a larger sample are necessary.
