O Bruxo e o Tinhoso: uma análise do Diabo em dois contos machadianos

Abstract

O presente trabalho buscou efetuar uma leitura comparativa entre o Diabo retratado na Bíblia e na Tradição Católica e o Diabo que é descrito em dois contos de Machado de Assis, a saber, Adão e Eva (1885) e A Igreja do Diabo (1883). Para tal, no primeiro momento, buscou-se delinear o que é Teopoética e apontar algumas de suas principais linhas teóricas; no segundo momento, partindo do cabedal teórico da Teopoética, buscou-se explicitar de que forma o Diabo é retratado tanto na Bíblia quanto na Tradição Católica; no terceiro e último momento, a partir do que foi visto nos momentos antecedentes, buscou-se efetivamente traçar uma leitura comparativa entre o Diabo da Bíblia e da Tradição Católica com aquele que é reproduzido nos referidos contos de Machado de Assis, o Bruxo do Cosme Velho.

The present work sought to make a comparative reading between the Devil portrayed in the Bible and in the Catholic Tradition and the Devil which is described in two short-stories by Machado de Assis, namely Adam and Eve (1885) and The Church of the Devil (1883). For that, in the first moment, it was tried to delineate what is Theopoetics studies and to point out some of its main theoretical lines; in the second moment, starting from the theoretical base of Theopoetics, it was tried to explain how the Devil is portrayed both in the Bible and in the Catholic Tradition; in the third and last moment, from what was seen in the previous moments, it was tried to effectively draw a comparative reading between the Devil of the Bible and of the Catholic Tradition with that which is reproduced in the said short-stories of Machado de Assis, the Wizard of the Old Cosme.
