The construction of written cultureâ understood as a historical processâ in child development is the subject of this study. The process of schooling is fundamental to this development. The empirical framework for this study is the analysis of the actions and relationships that take place in these two educational settingsâ Early Childhood Education and Elementary Schoolâ with the aim of understanding this historical process from an institutional perspective. The study is based on the assumption that reading and writing are historically constituted within childrenâ s experiences, in the social and cultural relationships that shape their prehistory beginning in Early Childhood Education (and even before). From this perspective, the study investigates the institutional actions and relationships established between Early Childhood Education and Elementary School and their implications for childrenâ s development within written culture. The research is based on the argument that the transition between these stages can be guided by the historicity of the childâ s developmental process. The research is grounded in the Marxian tradition and Historical-Cultural Theory, in dialogue with authors such as Lev Vygotsky, Karl Marx, and Baruch Spinoza. Methodologically, it falls within the field of qualitative research, with an empirical corpus consisting of sixteen educational units in the Florianópolis Municipal School System. Data collection involved analyzing national and municipal legislation and administering questionnaires to the administrative teams of the participating Educational Units. For the analysis, we organized the methodological framework proposed by Vygotsky based on the general, particular, and singular levels to grasp the object in its multiple determinations, totality, mediations, and contradictions. The results indicate that the educational units recognize the importance of relationships and actions across educational stages, presenting a varied set of proposals in which transition is the most recurrent theme, albeit in a more ad hoc rather than procedural manner. The actions and relationships developed remain fragmented, poorly systematized, and marked by discontinuities that undermine the continuity of childrenâ s developmental processes. There is a disconnect between objective conditions favorable to coordination across educational stagesâ such as geographical proximity, shared spaces, and mutual recognition among institutionsâ and their effective translation into intentional pedagogical initiatives throughout the year. The data indicate that the history of childrenâ s developmental processes in mastering written culture has not yet become a central focus in the organization of actions and relationships between Early Childhood Education and Elementary School. At the same time, there are signs of initiatives aimed at strengthening collective planning, joint professional development, and closer collaboration among professionals across these educational stages, leading to more permanent inter-institutional actions. They also indicate that, although there is recognition of the importance of a more humanizing coordination committed to the childâ s developmental process, its implementation still faces limitations due to the concrete conditions governing the organization of pedagogical work. It is argued that the acquisition of reading and writing constitutes a historical process that begins before formal schooling and develops through the childâ s experiences and social relationships. From this perspective, the coordination between Early Childhood Education and Elementary School becomes more effective when organized based on this approach, in which the consideration and legitimization of the childâ viewed as a unity of affective and intellectual dimensionsâ enhances the acquisition of written culture. This research contributes to the debate on the organization of pedagogical work in Basic Education by reaffirming the ethical, political, and aesthetic necessity of actions and relationships between educational stages that tak |
