As mulheres em A vida invisível de Eurídice Gusmão: uma cartografia de afetos

Abstract

Publicado em 2016, o romance A vida invisível de Eurídice Gusmão, de Martha Batalha, retrata a condição das mulheres no Rio de Janeiro da primeira metade do século XX. Com base nesta obra, a presente dissertação tem o objetivo de analisar as trajetórias das personagens Eurídice, Guida, Filomena e Maria das Dores ? fazendo um recorte de gênero, raça e classe e tendo como foco questões relacionadas à educação, trabalho, casamento, sexualidade e maternidade ?, identificando aspectos semelhantes e diferentes entre estas quatro mulheres: filhas, irmãs, mães, esposas, donas de casa, trabalhadoras. Além disso, estabelecer uma cartografia de afetos ao analisar como se formam as relações entre elas e de que maneira elas impactam ? direta ou indiretamente ? suas vidas. O estudo também aborda a sororidade dentro e fora da narrativa, sendo ainda nos dias atuais uma importante estratégia de resistência em nossa sociedade patriarcal. Considerando que a literatura e a história por séculos foram escritas por homens, o que acarretou uma enorme invisibilidade feminina, são utilizados majoritariamente textos escritos por mulheres, propondo um diálogo entre autoras como Virginia Woolf, Simone de Beauvoir, Silvia Federici, Angela Davis e Carolina Maria de Jesus, para pensar o passado e o presente das mulheres, bem como o futuro que desejamos construir.

Abstract: Published in 2016, Martha Batalha?s novel A Vida Invisível de Eurídice Gusmão depicts the condition of women in Rio de Janeiro during the first half of the twentieth century. Drawing upon this work, the present dissertation aims to analyze the trajectories of the characters Eurídice, Guida, Filomena, and Maria das Dores ? employing a gender, race, and class framework, focusing on issues related to education, work, marriage, sexuality, and motherhood, while identifying similarities and differences among these four women in their roles as daughters, sisters, mothers, wives, housewives, and workers. Furthermore, the study seeks to establish a cartography of affects by analyzing how the relationships between them are formed and the manner in which these connections impact their lives, both directly and indirectly. The dissertation also addresses sisterhood both within and beyond the narrative, highlighting its continued importance as a strategy of resistance in our patriarchal society. Considering that for centuries Literature and History were predominantly written by men, resulting in significant female invisibility, this research utilizes primarily texts authored by women, establishing a dialogue between writers such as Virginia Woolf, Simone de Beauvoir, Silvia Federici, Angela Davis, and Carolina Maria de Jesus, to reflect on the past and present of women, as well as the future we aspire to build.
