Abstract: Memories of places are constructed from the experiences and affections related to the activities, practices, and perceptions lived within them. The power of a space is perceived as affections and memories are formed, in an inseparable mnemonic relationship with temporality and spatiality. This research stems from a concern that arose after a two-year period (from 2020 to 2022) of living with communities in a state of social vulnerability, exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The need was felt, then, to turn the architectural gaze to the city?and to its \"cities.\" Questions haunted me: how many \"cities\" could fit within a city? How many lives were taking place in the same city where I, the researcher, also live? How many lived, and how many merely survived? By questioning myself, I understood that I needed to leave my everyday life and reach out to the Other?the woman living in the community?listening to her and recording her through reflections, artistic essays, and diverse movements, anchored in otherness and the relationship of proximity and trust that was established. Affected by these questions, this research investigates the space of a peripheral community in the city of Curitiba (PR) and its relationships with memory and otherness, through a process supported by the verbal triad adopted as a method: knowing-reflecting-creating. To understand the thinking of classic authors relevant to the topics addressed, such as Bergson, Halbwachs, Merleau-Ponty, Bachelard, Proust, Lévinas, and Habermas, among others, to reflect on the intersections that concepts provoke in my research, and to create my own thought(s). This is what I intend to do in this thesis: narrate processes and the findings obtained from them. As I narrate, this thesis becomes a large album of memories. Through devices adopted as methodological tools?the Other's memory album and my thesis album, using the collage art technique?I experience the space and the relationships that occur within it, recording my perception and memories. The circular process, present in the community encounters, and the contact with the woman, the research subject, enabled silent reading, parallel to the fieldwork, which is, in itself, dialogic. Between spontaneous and descriptive writing, there is a serious, reflective, and thoughtful one, seeking a common thread and a balanced balance between the philosophical biases explored. The findings are qualitative and subjective, but when explained throughout, they solidify arguments about spatiality, responsibility toward the Other(s), and the construction of memories. |
