A camponesa, a princesa e a rainha: a adaptação da personagem Áslaug na série Vikings

Abstract

O presente Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso tem por escopo investigar o processo de adaptação da personagem Áslaug, personagem central da saga islandesa Ragnars saga loðbrókar, para a série de TV Vikings (2013-2020). À luz das contribuições dos teóricos da Teoria da Adaptação, a saber, Robert Stam (2006) e Linda Hutcheon (2013), e do teórico Gerard Genette (2010 [1982]), buscou-se analisar quais fatores contribuíram para a perda de proeminência e marginalização da personagem e quais as consequências disso para a narrativa da série. Como hipótese de pesquisa, aventou-se que a personagem havia sido deixada de lado em favor de outra personagem feminina, a donzela de escudo Lagertha, a qual gozava de maior popularidade junto ao público. Os resultados da pesquisa evidenciaram que houve um apagamento da personagem feminina, algo que fortaleceu o protagonismo do personagem Ragnar Lothbrok. Por outro lado, o estudo demonstrou como narrativas tão antigas podem ser ressignificadas.

This undergraduate thesis aims to investigate the adaptation process of the character Áslaug, the central character of the Icelandic saga Ragnars saga loðbrókar, for the TV series Vikings. (2013-2020). In light of the contributions of Adaptation Theory theorists, Robert Stam (2006) and Linda Hutcheon (2013), and theorist Gerard Genette (2010 [1982]), the study sought to analyze which factors contributed to the loss of prominence and marginalization of the character and what was the consequences of this for the series’s narrative. As the research hypothesis, it was suggested that the character had been sidelined in favor of another female character, the shield-maiden Lagertha, who enjoyed greater popularity with the audience. The research results revealed an erasure of the female character, a move that reinforced the central role of Ragnar Lothbrok. Nevertheless, the study demonstrated how such ancient narratives can be resignified.
