Abstract: This study aimed to understand how the National Policy for Comprehensive Health for the Black Population contributes to the promotion of health and empowerment of black women. This is a qualitative research, of the participatory action type, articulated with Paulo Freire's Research Itinerary, which consists of three stages: thematic investigation, coding and decoding, and critical unveiling. Ten workers from the Monte Cristo Health Center participated in the study. The thematic investigation was based on guiding questions about women's empowerment and health, and critical unveiling occurred concomitantly with the participation of the researchers, enabling the analysis of the themes. Regarding ethical aspects, it was approved under opinion 6,856,056 and CAAE 79654924.3.0000.0121 of April 30, 2024. During the thematic investigation, 10 generating themes were raised, namely: autonomy, being one's own owner, having freedom, freedom of choice, social and gender issues, inequalities, racism, prejudice and discrimination, which were coded and decoded into four considerable themes, namely: gender, racial issues, autonomy and politics and which were revealed by all participants as the circle progressed. The results of this research were described in two manuscripts. The first addressed the National Policy for Comprehensive Health for the Black Population, racism and health promotion. The second highlights issues of gender and sexism. The National Policy for Comprehensive Health for the Black Population was created to reduce inequities, expand access, ensure fair and discrimination-free care and qualify care provided by health professionals. It is concluded that there are still many barriers to empowerment and health promotion for women, especially black, brown and indigenous women. It is urgently necessary to widely disseminate the policy with a view to professional qualification regarding what racism and structural racism are, how to combat them, as well as a qualified approach to care for this segment of the population that still has the worst health indices. These women are the ones who encounter the most barriers to taking care of their health, with discrimination being one of the barriers that keeps them from empowerment and health promotion. In this scenario, given the dimensions involved in this process, it is important not only for the general population and health institutions to enforce changes in behaviors and attitudes towards women so that they can receive care equally. |
