Efeito in vitro de medicamentos homeopáticos frente a Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract

A resistência antimicrobiana representa um desafio crescente à saúde pública, exigindo o desenvolvimento de alternativas terapêuticas seguras e eficazes. Com um conjunto crescente de evidências clínicas, um forte histórico de segurança e evidências de custo-benefício, a homeopatia representa uma potencial alternativa terapêutica que pode levar à redução do uso de antibióticos, uma vez que alguns estudos demonstraram efeito de medicamentos homeopáticos sobre o crescimento bacteriano, entretanto, em sua maioria frente a cepas padrão (ATCC). Este estudo avaliou o efeito in vitro de medicamentos homeopáticos e Bioterápico sobre o crescimento de isolados clínicos de Staphylococcus aureus sensíveis (MSSA) e resistentes à meticilina (MRSA) e uma cepa ATCC (25923). Foram aplicadas as metodologias de difusão em poço e diluição em microplaca com marcador de viabilidade, utilizando diferentes potências de Belladonna, Rhus tox e Bioterápico preparado com S. aureus – ATCC 25923 (6CH, 12CH e 30CH) e diferentes volumes (10, 20 e 30 µL). Os resultados demonstraram que, no teste de difusão, não houve formação de halos de inibição pelos medicamentos testados. No entanto, na diluição em microplaca, alguns isolados apresentaram redução significativa no crescimento com os medicamentos homeopáticos testados e com o Bioterápico. Considerando os isolados MSSA e MRSA testados, o medicamento homeopático que mostrou maior capacidade de inibição sobre o crescimento bacteriano foi o Bioterápico na potência 12CH. Quanto ao volume, de forma geral, no tratamento com 20 µL observou-se maior eficácia dos medicamentos. Esses resultados corroboram com os observados por outros autores que também demonstraram inibição de S. aureus com Belladonna. A resposta variável entre os isolados pode estar relacionada a fatores intrínsecos das cepas clínicas, reforçando a necessidade de estudos adicionais que considerem a heterogeneidade bacteriana e explorem o potencial dos medicamentos homeopáticos como alternativa terapêutica complementar.

Antimicrobial resistance represents a growing challenge to public health, requiring the development of safe and effective therapeutic alternatives. With a growing body of clinical evidence, a strong safety record and evidence of cost-effectiveness, homeopathy represents a potential therapeutic alternative that can lead to a reduction in the use of antibiotics, since some studies have demonstrated the effect of homeopathic medicines on bacterial growth, however, mostly against standard strains (ATCC). This study evaluated the in vitro effect of homeopathic and biotherapeutic medicines on the growth of clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus sensitive (MSSA) and resistant to methicillin (MRSA) and an ATCC strain (25923). The methodologies of well diffusion and microplate dilution with viability marker were applied, using different potencies of Belladonna, Rhus tox and Bioterápico prepared with S. aureus – ATCC 25923 (6CH, 12CH and 30CH) and different volumes (10, 20 and 30 µL). The results demonstrated that, in the diffusion test, there was no formation of inhibition halos by the drugs tested. However, in the microplate dilution, some isolates showed significant reduction in growth with the homeopathic drugs tested and with the Bioterápico. Considering the MSSA and MRSA isolates tested, the homeopathic drug that showed the greatest inhibition capacity on bacterial growth was the Bioterápico in the 12CH potency. Regarding the volume, in general, greater efficacy of the drugs was observed in the treatment with 20 µL. These results corroborate those observed by other authors who also demonstrated inhibition of S. aureus with Belladonna. The variable response among isolates may be related to intrinsic factors of clinical strains, reinforcing the need for additional studies that consider bacterial heterogeneity and explore the potential of homeopathic medicines as a complementary therapeutic alternative.
