A cruz e a floresta: imigrantes ucranianos e a transformação da paisagem (1890-1970)

Abstract

Esta tese tem por objetivo analisar o processo de construção das paisagens culturais nas colônias de imigrantes ucranianos no Estado do Paraná entre os anos de 1890 e 1970 a partir da relação entre uma alteridade ambiental e a religiosidade deste grupo. Tal investigação é pautada por uma análise fundamentada na perspectiva da História Global, na qual busca-se compreender os fenômenos históricos que estruturaram o processo de imigração deste grupo. Para isso, analisa-se os relatos dos indivíduos que migraram da Ucrânia para o Brasil, assim como, as fotografias do início de seu estabelecimento. As fontes compreendem diversas temporalidades, desde depoimentos contemporâneos do período, memórias e biografias. Os capítulos que seguem discutem o processo imigratório ucraniano no século XIX através de seus aspectos globalizantes que possibilitaram formas de integração e circulação deste grupo. Outro aspecto analisado são as transformações estruturais globais que possibilitaram o fenômeno migratório e a agência dos indivíduos perante estas mudanças, assim como, as transformações ambientais realizadas por eles após seu estabelecimento nos núcleos coloniais paranaenses na tentativa de (re)construção da paisagem e apropriação do ambiente através de seus componentes étnicos. As leituras do mundo natural realizadas por esse grupo, assim como, suas narrativas e formas de apropriação e transformação, foram pautadas por experiências espaciais e temporais dos imigrantes mediados por sua religiosidade que estruturaram tanto sua identidade quanto a forma como se relacionaram com o ambiente.

Abstract: This thesis aims to analyze the process of constructing cultural landscapes in the Ukrainian immigrant colonies in the State of Paraná between the years 1890 and 1970 based on the relationship between environmental otherness and the religiosity of this group. This investigation is grounded in an analysis based on the perspective of Global History, which seeks to understand the historical phenomena that structured the immigration process of this group. To this end, the accounts of individuals who migrated from Ukraine to Brazil are analyzed, as well as photographs from the beginning of their settlement. The sources encompass various temporalities, from contemporary testimonies of the period to memoirs and biographies. The following chapters discuss the Ukrainian immigration process in the 19th century through its globalizing aspects that enabled forms of integration and circulation of this group. Another aspect analyzed is the global structural transformations that made the migratory phenomenon possible and the agency of individuals in the face of these changes, as well as the environmental transformations carried out by them after their establishment in the colonial nuclei of Paraná in an attempt to (re)construct the landscape and appropriate the environment through their ethnic components. The readings of the natural world performed by this group, as well as their narratives and forms of appropriation and transformation, were shaped by the spatial and temporal experiences of the immigrants mediated by their religiosity, which structured both their identity and the way they related to the environment.
