G.H., a paixão e o kitsch

Abstract

Este trabalho tem como principal objetivo propor uma leitura da personagem central de A paixão segundo G.H., romance escrito por Clarice Lispector, investigando a transformação pela qual a personagem passa na narrativa, que altera sua atitude, e interpretando-a à luz do kitsch. Adota-se a concepção de que o kitsch é um comportamento sistemático, um fenômeno ligado à modernidade e à sociedade industrial, que se aliena do real, cobrindo-se com uma máscara e excluindo desprazeres e desconfortos, tendo como ordem própria, portanto, a beleza e a limpeza. A transformação da personagem central se dá no quarto da ex-empregada, assim, para o estudo, a atitude de G.H. é dividida entre o pré-quarto, ordenado, e o pós-quarto, caótico. Argumenta-se que a personagem, especialmente na situação pré-quarto, pode ser vista como reflexo de uma civilização alinhada ao kitsch. No estudo, são contemplados os primórdios do fenômeno, bem como suas implicações na contemporaneidade.

Abstract: The main objective of this work is to propose an interpretation of the main character of The passion according to G.H., a novel written by Clarice Lispector, investigating the transformation that the character goes through in the narrative, which alters her attitude, and interpreting it in light of kitsch. The conception adopted is that kitsch is a systematic behavior, a phenomenon linked to modernity and industrial society, which alienates itself from reality, covering itself with a mask and excluding displeasures and discomforts, having its own order, therefore, ruled by beauty and cleanliness. The transformation of the main character takes place in the ex-maid's room, so, for the study, the attitude of G.H. is divided between the pre-room, orderly, and the post-room, chaotic. It is argued that the character, especially in the pre-room situation, can be seen as a reflection of a civilization aligned with kitsch. The study covers the beginnings of the phenomenon, as well as its implications for contemporary times.
