| Abstract: |
Orofacial trauma frequently occurs during sports and, therefore, affects a considerable portion of the population. Of the participants, 33 (35.86%) athletes suffered trauma during competition and 58 (63.04%) athletes during training. 66.7% of athletes were not treated immediately after the trauma, and 81.1% did not receive post-trauma follow-up. Regarding the use of a mouthguard at the time of the trauma, it was 95.9% and 91.2% did not use a mouthguard, and 64.9% did not know if there is sports dentistry. The prevalence of orofacial trauma continues to be high and protection adherence is extremely low. Therefore, dentists need to promote more lectures and information both on social media and so that athletes, parents, managers, coaches, parents and institutions can receive guidance and education about this. Given the results, it was possible to conclude that there was a large percentage of athletes who had already suffered some type of injury while playing sports. Even after the trauma, compliance with the mouthguard was low.Orofacial trauma frequently occurs during sports and, therefore, affects a considerable portion of the population.
