Análise bibliométrica dos 100 artigos mais citados sobre selante dentário.

Abstract

Este estudo identificou e analisou as características dos 100 artigos mais citados sobre selante dental (SD) na odontologia. Em setembro de 2022, foi realizada uma pesquisa na Web of Science Core Collection (WoS-CC). As seguintes informações foram extraídas de cada artigo: número e densidade de citações, ano de publicação, autoria, revista, fator de impacto, palavraschave, desenho do estudo, tema, continente, país e instituição. As citações da WoS-CC foram comparadas com as bases de dados Scopus e Google Acadêmico. O software VOSviewer foi utilizado para gerar redes colaborativas. O Google Trends foi usado para investigar a popularidade global da pesquisa do SD. O número de citações variou de 33 a 200. Os artigos foram publicados entre 1961 e 2016. Buonocore MG (7%), Meyer-lueckel H (6%) e Paris S (6%) se destacaram entre os autores. Os artigos foram publicados principalmente no The Journal of the American Dental Association (26%). A maioria dos estudos teve desenho intervencionista (41%) e laboratorial (31%), abordando principalmente a eficácia do DS na prevenção e controle da cárie dentária (86%). Houve predominância de publicações da América do Norte (46%). Os Estados Unidos da América (EUA) foi o país com mais artigos (44%). As instituições mais frequentes foram os Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (EUA) e a Universidade de Rochester (EUA) (6% cada). O VOSviewer demonstrou a colaboração entre os autores. Para o Google Trends, os Estados Unidos foram o país que mais buscou SD. Esta revisão bibliométrica destacou principalmente estudos de intervenção sobre a retenção e eficácia do SD, publicados principalmente nos EUA. Assim, há necessidade de estudos observacionais e revisões sistemáticas, além de incentivar mais publicações sobre DS na África,Oceania e América do Sul.

Abstract: This study identified and analyzed the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles on dentalsealant (DS) in dentistry. In September 2022, a search was performed on the Web of ScienceCore Collection (WoS-CC). The following information was extracted from each article: numberand density of citations, year of publication, authorship, journal, impact factor, keywords, studydesign, theme, continent, country and institution. The citations of the WoS-CC were comparedwith the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. The VOSviewer software was used to generatecollaborative networks. Google Trends was used to investigate the global popularity of DSsearch. The number of citations ranged from 33 to 200. The articles were published between1961 and 2016. Buonocore MG (7%), Meyer-lueckel H (6%), and Paris S (6%) stood out amongthe authors. The articles were published mainly in The Journal of the American DentalAssociation (26%). Most studies had an interventional (41%) and laboratory (31%) design,mainly addressing the effectiveness of DS in the prevention and control of dental caries (86%).There was a predominance of publications from North America (46%). The United States ofAmerica (USA) was the country with the most articles (44%). The most frequent institutionswere the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USA) and the University of Rochester(USA) (6% each). VOSviewer demonstrated collaboration between authors. For GoogleTrends, the United States was the country that most searched for DS. This bibliometric reviewmainly highlighted intervention studies on the retention and efficacy of DS, primarily publishedin the USA. Thus, there is a need for observational studies and systematic reviews, as well asencouraging more publications on SD in Africa, Oceania and South America.
