Hollywood como arma na Guerra ao Terror: uma análise geopolítica crítica popular

Abstract

Tendo em vista os impactos globais da política externa norte-americana de “guerra ao terror”, principalmente ao que concerne às tratativas do mundo ocidental em relação ao oriental, a problemática deste trabalho está em investigar e compreender como produções cinematográficas ajudaram a consolidar discursos geopolíticos do hegemon americano acerca do 11 de setembro. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória, guiada pela perspectiva da teoria geopolítica crítica popular, com destaque à análise de cinco filmes que orbitam a temática da “guerra ao terror”. Foi possível, a partir desta análise, identificar que o alinhamento de Hollywood ao governo ianque contribuiu para a consolidação de uma definição de terrorismo de acordo com a perspectiva do hegemon, que degradava, sem distinções, a imagem do mundo mulçumano, ao mesmo tempo que revivia a imagem do heroi-americano e de sua missão de levar paz e democracia ao mundo. O imaginário da ameaça terrorista possibilitou, em grande parte, a retaliação do ataque sofrido nos termos americanos e nutriu um estado de medo geral, que serviu de engrenagem para a execução da política de “guerra ao terror”.

Considering the global impacts of the “war on terror” US foreign policy, especially about the western world's ways of dealing with the eastern one, the problematic of this work is to investigate and understand how cinematographic productions helped to consolidate US geopolitical discourses about 11/9. This is an exploratory research, guided by the perspective of popular critical geopolitical theory, with emphasis on the analysis of five films about the “war on terror”. It was possible, from this analysis, to identify that Hollywood's alignment with the Yankee government contributed to the consolidation of a terrorism definition under the hegemon's perspective, which degraded, without distinction, the image of the Muslim world, while revived the image of the American hero and his mission to bring peace and democracy to the world. The imaginary of the terrorist threat made possible, to a large extent, the retaliation of the attack suffered in American terms and nurtured a general state of fear, which served as a gear for the execution of the “war on terror” policy.
