Representações de imigrantes venezuelanos no Jornal Nacional

Abstract

O período recente de crise econômica na Venezuela tem provocado migração para os países vizinhos, entre eles o Brasil. Esse movimento migratório, acompanhado de constantes entraves políticos e tensões sociais, traz ao centro do debate público a relação entre os dois países, as políticas do estado brasileiro no âmbito do acolhimento e inserção social de imigrantes e, no que interessa a esta pesquisa, a forma como a imprensa aborda esse fenômeno e o representa. Diante desse contexto, esta dissertação tem como objeto de estudo as representações de imigrantes venezuelanos no Jornal Nacional , da Rede Globo de Televisão, principal telejornal diário do país. O objetivo da pesquisa é identificar e analisar as representações construídas pelo Jornal Nacional sobre os imigrantes venezuelanos. O corpus é constituído por 49 matérias veiculadas pelo telejornal entre janeiro de 2015 e dezembro de 2020. A análise apoia-se no conceito de representação formulado por Stuart Hall (1993, 2003, 2010, 2016), que a entende como a produção de sentidos através da linguagem. A análise das representações dos imigrantes foi feita em torno de quatro eixos temáticos: a 'fuga' para o Brasil; os conflitos entre brasileiros e venezuelanos; ajuda e solidariedade de brasileiros; e questões institucionais e normativas no Brasil. Entre as principais representações identificadas, destaca-se que os venezuelanos são retratados como um grupo homogêneo, em fuga de um país devastado pela crise econômica e política e em busca de um recomeço em outro país. O imigrante aparece como alguém em constante movimento para tentar melhorar de vida, lutando contra a saudade da família, ou as adversidades em um novo país, mas sem ser reconhecido como um cidadão pleno. A análise mostrou que a cobertura do Jornal Nacional atenta para poucos aspectos do contexto sócio-político que envolve a imigração venezuelana para o Brasil. O telejornal pouco complexifica a situação dos imigrantes ou de seu país e ignora aspectos que envolvem a maneira como o Brasil recebe imigrantes, produzindo relatos com representações negativas e estereotipadas sobre os cidadãos venezuelanos no país.

Abstract: The recent period of economic crisis in Venezuela has been followed by increasing migration to neighboring countries, including Brazil. This migratory movement, accompanied by constant political hindrance and social tensions, brings to the center of the public debate the relationship between both countries, the public policies of the Brazilian state with regard to welcoming and promoting social integration of immigrants and, as far as this research is concerned, the way the press approaches this phenomenon and represents it. Given this context, this dissertation has as its object of study the representations of Venezuelan immigrants in Jornal Nacional , from Rede Globo de Televisão, the main daily news program in the country. The objective of the research is to identify and analyze the representations built by Jornal Nacional about Venezuelan immigrants. The corpus consists of 49 pieces of television news broadcast between January 2015 and December 2020. The analysis is based on the concept of representation formulated by Stuart Hall (1993, 2003, 2010, 2016), who understands it as the production of meanings through language. The analysis of the representations of immigrants was carried out around four thematic axes: the 'escape' to Brazil; the conflicts between Brazilians and Venezuelans; help and solidarity from Brazilians; and institutional and regulatory issues in Brazil. Among the main representations identified, it is highlighted that Venezuelans are portrayed as a homogeneous group, fleeing from a country devastated by the economic and political crisis and in search of a fresh start in another country. The immigrant appears as someone in constant movement trying to improve his life, fighting the longing of his family or adversities in a new country, but without being recognized as a full citizen. The analysis showed that the coverage of Jornal Nacional pays attention to few aspects of the socio-political context that involves Venezuelan immigration to Brazil. The newscast does little to deepen the understanding of the situation of immigrants or their country of origin and ignores aspects that involve the way in which Brazil receives immigrants, producing reports with negative and stereotyped representations about Venezuelan citizens in the country.
