Neonatologia Canina: revisão de literatura

Abstract

A neonatologia canina é a ciência que compreende os aspectos e particularidades do recém-nascido, bem como as afecções inerentes e os cuidados intensivos que se deve ter com o paciente neonato. A exiguidade de trabalhos científicos e insuficiência de profissionais capacitados na área, pode ser a causa significativa das altas taxas de mortalidade neonatal. A assistência médico-veterinária é imprescindível desde a fase de seleção dos reprodutores, até o manejo de acasalamento, acompanhamento de gestação e parto, suporte individual de cada neonato e posterior consulta pediátrica. Dentre as abordagens da presente revisão bibliográfica, estão: as características gerais do paciente neonato canino, os cuidados indispensáveis no manejo desses animais e a relação entre a fisiologia do recém-nascido e as síndromes, doenças e alterações neonatais mais frequentes. Com a execução deste trabalho, foi exequível inferir que é possível obter conhecimento consistente nessa área da medicina veterinária de pequenos animais, e, através dele, contribuir para a redução considerável da mortalidade neonatal, considerando a particular fragilidade desta fase.

Canine neonatology is the science that understands the aspects and particularities of the newborn, as well as the inherent conditions and the intensive care that must be given to the newborn patient. The scarcity of scientific works and the insufficiency of trained professionals in the area may be the significant cause of the high rates of neonatal mortality. Medical-veterinary assistance is essential from the stage of selection of sires, to the management of mating, monitoring of pregnancy and delivery, individual support for each neonate and subsequent pediatric consultation. Among the approaches of this bibliographic review are: the general characteristics of the canine neonate patient, the essential care in the handling of these animals and the relationship between the newborn's physiology and the most frequent neonatal syndromes, diseases and alterations. With the execution of this work, it was possible to infer that it is possible to obtain consistent knowledge in this area of veterinary medicine for small animals, and, through it, to contribute to the considerable reduction of neonatal mortality, considering the particular fragility of this phase.
