Por outras formas de ver o outro: (des)afetos, família e comunidade em O filho de mil homens, de Valter Hugo Mãe

Abstract

O propósito desta dissertação é o de apresentar um estudo do romance O filho de mil homens (2016 [2011]), do escritor português Valter Hugo Mãe, desenvolvendo reflexões sobre gênero e sexualidade em nossas análises e articulando discussões fomentadas a partir das teorias feministas e queer que emergiram da leitura do romance. O percurso crítico e analítico que propomos envolve noções e conceitos importantes para esses campos de estudos, mas que serão retomados em suas interfaces com os estudos literários, quais sejam, as noções de abjeção, de comunidade, de família, bem como o papel estruturante dos/das afetos/emoções, que passa também por uma reflexão sobre a construção do espaço ficcional nesta realização literária em particular. Procuramos ressaltar como essas noções têm estreitas ligações com construtos sociais complexos, considerando-as como construções simbólicas definidas pelo corpo social, que muitas vezes associam o diferente à anormalidade, a monstruosidade ou ao desvio. Objetivamos enfatizar as contribuições das teorias queer e dos estudos feministas para as reflexões acerca da literatura, uma vez que propõem espaços de questionamento e que, longe de oferecerem respostas definitivas, têm como objetivo problematizar preceitos monolíticos que são, via de regra, responsáveis por controlar e hierarquizar socialmente os corpos, no intuito de regularem o corpo social, demonstrando como esses preceitos são mobilizados e tensionados na construção ficcional do romance em questão.

Abstract: The purpose of this dissertation is to present a study of O filho de mil homens (2016 [2011]), by the Portuguese writer Valter Hugo Mãe, developing reflections on gender and sexuality in our analyses and organizing discussions based on feminist and queer theories that emerged from reading the novel. The critical and analytical path we propose involves important notions and concepts for these fields of studies, but they will be resumed in their interfaces with literary studies, namely, the notions of abjection, community, family, as well as the structuring role of affections and emotions, which also glances at a reflection on the construction of the fictional space in this particular literary work. We seek to highlight how these notions have close links with complex social constructs, considering them as symbolic constructions defined by the social body, which often associate the different ones with abnormality, monstrosity, or deviation. We aim to emphasize the contributions of queer theories and feminist studies to reflections on literature, since they create opportunities for questioning and, far from offering definitive answers, they aim to problematize monolithic precepts that are, as a rule, responsible for controlling and socially hierarchizing bodies, in order to regulate the social body, demonstrating how these precepts are mobilized and tensioned in the fictional construction of the novel at issue.
