Um país no labirinto: literatura e memória da ditadura no Brasil

Abstract

O trabalho tem como tema a relação entre literatura e realidade social no Brasil no contexto posterior à ditadura e, como objeto, a literatura de memória da ditadura. O objetivo da pesquisa consiste em responder à seguinte questão: De que maneira a literatura de memória da ditadura nos auxilia, mesmo depois de décadas do fim do regime civil-militar, a compreender nosso presente? Considerando a variedade de obras literárias analisadas e a própria natureza interdisciplinar do trabalho, adoto três referenciais teórico-metodológicos: A filosofia da história de Walter Benjamin, a crítica literária de Antonio Candido e Roberto Schwarz, e a noção de constelação de Theodor W. Adorno, associada à forma do ensaio por ele privilegiada. No primeiro capítulo, após passar em revista algumas das principais obras sobre ditadura e os respectivos estudos críticos, considero como literatura de memória da ditadura aquela que trata da ditadura tomando como ponto de partida o contexto da Lei de Anistia de 1979. Deste amplo arco histórico, debruço-me sobre o período pós-2010, elegendo como obra referencial o romance K. Relato de uma busca (2011), de Bernardo Kucinski. Para a análise do livro articulo os conceitos de memória e a elaboração do passado. Ao final, aponto a necessidade de um passo atrás no percurso da literatura brasileira. No segundo capítulo analiso Quarup (1967), de Antonio Callado, e Grande Sertão: Veredas (1956), de Guimarães Rosa, lançando mão de dois outros conceitos: literatura empenhada e formação brasileira. No terceiro capítulo tomo o romance Quatro-Olhos (1977), de Renato Pompeu, acompanhado dos conceitos de modernização conservadora e indústria cultural. No último, proponho a releitura do romance de B. Kucinski tendo como base o percurso feito nos capítulos anteriores e em conjunto com outros dois trabalhos ficcionais do autor sobre a ditadura: Você vai voltar pra mim (2014) e Os visitantes (2016). Para a análise dos livros, sirvo-me de quatro outros conceitos: atualidade supressiva; sentimento de impossibilidade; o circuito do sempre igual; indústria cultural/semiformação. O capítulo se encerra com a retomada do referencial da crítica dialética que norteou análise das obras literárias: o estudo sobre a literatura de memória da ditadura deste início de século permite investigar de que modo os elementos sócio-históricos são representados na forma estética. Tendo como pressuposto que o campo literário assimila as mesmas dificuldades dos campos sociopolítico e econômico, encaminho a conclusão do estudo sustentando que a literatura de memória da ditadura sofre uma tensão de duas forças: uma que a impulsiona para frente ? pela exigência de mercado, novas formas de expressão etc. ? e outra que a remete constantemente ao passado. A urgência de ser nova e a necessidade da memória, como imperativo de elaboração de um passado que não terminou. Da mesma forma que o presente sócio-político e econômico do país também continua condicionado pelo passado ditatorial. Um processo de dilaceração estética e social. País e literatura no labirinto.

This work reports the relationship between literature and social reality in Brazil in the context after the dictatorship and, as an object, the memory literature of the dictatorship. The goal of this research is to answer the following question: How does the dictatorship literature help us, even after decades of the end of the civil-military regime, to understand our present? Taking into account the diversity of literary works analyzed and the interdisciplinary nature of the work, I select three theoretical-methodological references: the philosophy of Walter Benjamin's history, the literary criticism of Antonio Candido and Roberto Schwarz, and the notion of constellation of Theodor W. Adorno, associated with the form of the essay privileged by him. In the first chapter, after reviewing some of the main works on the dictatorship and mandatory studies, I consider the dictatorship's literature to be the one which deals with the dictatorship, taking as its starting point the context of the 1979 Amnesty Law. From this wide historical arc, I look at the post-2010 period, choosing as a reference work the novel K. Relato de uma busca (2011), by Bernardo Kucinski. For the analysis of the book, I articulate the concepts of memory and the elaboration of the past. In the end, I point out the need for a step backwards in the course of Brazilian literature. In the second chapter I analyze Quarup (1967), by Antonio Callado, and Grande Sertão: Veredas (1956), by Guimarães Rosa, using two other concepts: committed literature and Brazilian formation. In the third chapter I single out the novel Quatro-Olhos (1977), by Renato Pompeu, accompanied by the concepts of conservative modernization and cultural industry. In the last, I propose the re-reading of the novel by B. Kucinski based on the path taken in the previous chapters and along with two other fictional works by the author on the dictatorship: Você vai voltar pra mim (2014) and Os visitantes (2016). For the analysis of the books, I use four other concepts: suppressive topicality; feeling of impossibility; the circuit of always the same; cultural industry / semi-training. The chapter comes to an end with the resumption of the referential of the dialectical criticism which guided the analysis of literary works: the study of the memory literature of the dictatorship of this early century allows us to investigate how the socio-historical elements are represented in the aesthetic form. Assuming that the literary field assimilates the same problems in the socio-political and economic fields, I conclude the study by maintaining that the dictatorship's literature suffers from a tension of two strong sides: one that propels it forward - due to the market demand, new forms of expression, etc. - and another that constantly reminds it of the past. The immediacy to be new and the need for memory, as an imperative for elaborating a past that has not ended. In the same way that the country's socio-political and economic present also remains conditioned by the dictatorial past. A process of aesthetic and social ripping.
