Intenções em arquitetura fractal: uma análise da forma em duas obras de Steven Holl - Sarphatistraat e Loisium

Abstract

Ao partir de correntes filosóficas da fenomenologia, observam-se apropriações que permitem uma reflexão sobre intenções em arquitetura, de modo que o arquiteto pode aproximar-se desse conhecimento em relação a uma mediação da experiência humana com o aproveitamento de propriedades da forma fractal na construção do espaço arquitetônico. Nesse cenário, destaca-se o objetivo de interpretar o trabalho de Steven Holl, considerando intenções projetuais do arquiteto na aplicação de formas fractais nas composições arquitetônicas de Sarphatistraat e Loisium, ambas obras realizadas pelo seu ateliê. O estudo parte da fundamentação teórica, ao apresentar uma contextualização sobre princípios que conduzem o trabalho do arquiteto na perspectiva fenomenológica, sobretudo com a forma fractal inserida na arquitetura. Enquanto isso, nos procedimentos metodológicos, a investigação envolve a estruturação de uma estratégia de análise da forma, desdobrada no procedimento descritivo de cada obra a partir de três eixos interpretativos: a identificação do lugar, o conceito e a forma, e o espaço arquitetônico. Trata-se de uma pesquisa que envolve o suporte de registro bibliográfico, com abrangência exploratória caracterizada por uma aproximação qualitativa do desenho a partir do material iconográfico das obras selecionadas: plantas, cortes, elevações, axonometrias e fotografias. Dessa maneira, o trabalho foca na interpretação das obras analisadas, permitindo considerar a forma fractal como sendo geradora de uma estrutura para construção de linhas, planos, volumes e aberturas que identificam a arquitetura a partir do lugar, articulando o conceito que define o emprego da forma, bem como as relações humanas no espaço arquitetônico. Entende-se uma apropriação que acontece em escalas, desde o aspecto matemático de propriedades da forma fractal, a aplicação na arquitetura em uma disposição ordenada entre partes e o todo arquitetônico, bem como em atributos que envolvem a experiência em determinado ambiente. Assim, correlacionando os aspectos apresentados na pesquisa, considera-se a contribuição do estudo das intenções do arquiteto no uso da forma fractal na composição arquitetônica como uma referência para pesquisadores, profissionais e estudantes na elaboração de propostas projetuais.

Abstract: Starting from philosophical currents of phenomenology, one observes appropriations that allow a reflection on intentions in architecture, so that the architect can approach this knowledge concerning mediation of the human experience with the utilization of properties of the fractal form in the construction of the architectural space. In this scenario, stands out the objective of interpreting the work of Steven Holl, considering the architect?s intentions on the use of fractal form in the architectural compositions of Sarphatistraat and Loisium, both works carried out by his studio. The study starts from the theoretical foundation, by presenting a contextualization about principles that conduct the work of the architect from the phenomenological perspective, especially with the fractal form inserted in the architecture. Meanwhile, in the methodological procedures, the investigation involves the structuring of a form analysis strategy, unfolded in the descriptive procedure of each work from three interpretative axes: the identification of the place, the concept and the form, and the architectural space. This is a research that involves the support of the bibliographic record, with exploratory scope characterized by a qualitative approximation of the drawing from the iconographic material of the selected works: plans, sections, elevations, axonometries and photographs. Thus, the work focuses on the interpretation of the works analyzed, allowing to consider the fractal form as generating a structure for the construction of lines, planes, volumes and openings that identify the architecture from the place, articulating the concept that defines the use of form, as well as human relations in the architectural space. It is understood an appropriation that happens in scales, since the mathematical aspect of properties of the fractal form, the application in the architecture in an ordered arrangement between parts and the architectural whole, as well as in attributes that involve the experience in a given environment. Thus, by correlating the aspects presented in the research, it is considered the contribution of the study of the architect?s intentions in the use of fractal form in the architectural composition, as a reference for researchers, professionals and students in the elaboration of design proposals.
