Reflorescer: histórias de mulheres negras que enfrentaram a transição capilar

Abstract

Segundo dados do dossiê "A Revolução dos Cachos", realizado pelo Google BrandLab, as buscas no Google por "cabelos cacheados" cresceram 232% entre 2013 e 2017, ultrapassando pela primeira vez pesquisas por "cabelos lisos". Além disso, o levantamento apontou, no mesmo período, crescimento de 55% na procura por "transição capilar", termo dado ao período em que se para de alisar os cabelos e se aguarda o nascimento dos fios naturais. Esse movimento de valorização de cabelos crespos e cacheados, que surgiu na segunda década dos anos 2000, foi difundido na internet, onde mulheres passaram a compartilhar suas experiências com o abandono de alisamentos e criaram uma ampla rede de apoio. Por meio de entrevistas com mulheres negras que enfrentaram a transição capilar, este trabalho aborda a relação dessas pessoas com seus cabelos crespos e cacheados na infância, no período em que realizaram alisamentos e depois de retomarem os cabelos naturais. Além disso, este livro-reportagem investiga a relação entre alisamento capilar e racismo, a partir de entrevistas com pesquisadores (as) e leituras teóricas de trabalhos de diversas áreas, da Farmácia à Antropologia, apresentando um apanhado consistente de informações interdisciplinares acerca do tema.

According to data from the dossier "The Curls Revolution" conducted by Google BrandLab, Google searches for "curly hair" grew 232% between 2013 and 2017, surpassing searches for "straight hair" for the first time. Furthermore, this survey indicated a 55% increase in the search for "hair transition" in the same period, a term given to the period of natural hair growth after stopping hair straightening. This movement of valuing curly and kinky hair appeared in the second decade of the 2000s and was disseminated on the internet, where women began to share their experiences with the ditching of straightening and built a wide support network. Through interviews with black women who faced hair transition, this work addresses the relationship of these people with their curly and coily hair in childhood, during the period of hair straightening and after getting back their natural hair. In addition, this book report investigates the relation between hair straightening and racism, based on interviews with specialists and research in different areas, from Pharmacy to Anthropology, presenting a consistent collection of interdisciplinary information on the subject.
