Internalismo de julgamento e cognitivismo na epistemologia moral

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo geral identificar se a epistemologia moral mais compatível com a versão mais plausível do internalismo de julgamento na psicologia moral é o cognitivismo ou o não-cognitivismo moral, explicitando a forma como uma dessas duas posições pode ser capaz de oferecer uma explicação adequada para o conhecimento moral. A investigação realizada tem como metodologia a pesquisa bibliográfica e, em sua parte inicial, oferece uma introdução ao debate entre o internalismo e o externalismo moral, a fim de avaliar, em seguida, as possíveis implicações epistemológicas do internalismo de julgamento não-constitutivo defendido por Jon Tresan. Considerando essa formulação do internalismo de julgamento como a posição mais plausível na psicologia moral, é obtido o resultado de que tal posição seria melhor acomodada por uma epistemologia moral cognitivista. Por conta disso, a parte central da pesquisa se ocupa da defesa de uma forma mais ampla de cognitivismo moral que reconhece a existência de diferentes tipos de conhecimento moral. O trabalho procura salientar, sobretudo, a plausibilidade de algum tipo de saber-como moral integrar o conhecimento moral, e isso conduz ao resultado de que as teorias antirrealistas (tanto as cognitivistas quanto as não-cognitivistas) apresentam uma epistemologia moral inadequada por não serem compatíveis com essa possibilidade. A parte final da pesquisa realiza um estudo preliminar a respeito das posições do realismo e do antirrealismo na ontologia moral com o propósito de oferecer um retrato mais detalhado do tipo de cognitivismo moral defendido neste trabalho, esclarecendo os compromissos ontológicos dessa posição. Tal estudo indica que essa epistemologia moral mais ampla não deve ser vista como automaticamente comprometida ao realismo moral, pois sugere a possibilidade de o cognitivismo não-realista de Derek Parfit configurar a ontologia moral mais promissora quanto à defesa do cognitivismo internalista de julgamento.

Abstract: The present work has as general objective to identify whether the moral epistemology more compatible with the most plausible version of judgment internalism in moral psychology is moral cognitivism or non-cognitivism, explaining how one of these two positions may be able to offer an adequate explanation for moral knowledge. The research carried out has as methodology the bibliographic research and, in its initial part, offers an introduction to the debate between moral internalism and externalism in order to evaluate, afterwards, the possible epistemological implications of the non-constitutive judgment internalism defended by Jon Tresan. Considering this formulation of judgment internalism as the most plausible position in moral psychology, the result obtained is that such a position would be better accommodated by a cognitivist moral epistemology. Because of this, the central part of the research deals with the defense of a broader form of moral cognitivism that recognizes the existence of different kinds of moral knowledge. The work seeks to highlight, above all, the plausibility of some kind of moral know-how to integrate moral knowledge, and this leads to the result that the anti-realist theories (both cognitivists and non-cognitivists) have an inadequate moral epistemology because they are not compatible with this possibility. The final part of the research conducts a preliminary study regarding the positions of moral realism and anti-realism in moral ontology with the purpose of offering a more detailed picture of the type of moral cognitivism defended in this work, clarifying the ontological commitments of this position. The study indicates that this broader moral epistemology should not be seen as automatically committed to moral realism, since it suggests the possibility of Derek Parfit's non-realist cognitivism to configure the most promising moral ontology regarding the defense of judgment internalist cognitivism
