As cartas da Baronesa Amélia: um estudo sobre gênero e prescrições de feminilidades (Pelotas/RS ? 1885 a 1918)

Abstract

O presente estudo analisa 130 (cento e trinta) cartas enviadas pela Baronesa Amélia para sua filha Amélia entre os anos de 1885 e 1918 na cidade de Pelotas/RS. A partir dos estudos de gênero, a pesquisa investigou como a mãe, através das correspondências, orientou sua filha nas performances de feminilidades, ensinando-a a ser mãe, esposa e dona do lar. A tese inspirada nos estudos pós-estruturalistas buscou compreender as relações de poder e subjetividade existentes entre mãe e filha durante os 33 (trinta e três) anos de envio das correspondências. Composta de 4 (quatro) capítulos, a investigação analisou a história da família Maciel na cidade de Pelotas, as relações de memória e pertencimento, as mídias e os modelos idealizados de mulheres e os ?laços de papel? firmados entre mãe e filha. A partir dessas reflexões, foi possível compreender as organizações estruturais, os rearranjos sociais e as relações socioculturais entre os indivíduos, o que possibilitou a compreensão, através das missivas, das tentativas e das buscas empreendidas por Baronesa Amélia para compor e moldar o corpo, as ações e as atitudes de sua filha Amélia.

Abstract: This study analyzes 130 (one hundred and thirty) letters sent from Baroness Amélia to her daughter Amélia between 1885 and 1918 in the city of Pelotas / RS. Based on gender studies, the present research investigated how the mother, through correspondence, guided her daughter in the performances of femininities, teaching her to be a mother, wife and homemaker. The thesis, inspired by post-structuralist studies, sought to understand the power and subjectivity relationships that exist between mother and daughter during the 32 (thirty-two) years of sending correspondence. Composed of 4 (four) chapters, the present investigation analyzed the history of the Maciel family in the city of Pelotas, the relations of memory and belonging, the media and idealized models of women and the bonds of paper established between mother and daughter. From these reflections, it was possible to understand structural organizations, social rearrangements and social relationships between individuals, which enabled the understanding, through missives, of the attempts and searches undertaken by Baroness Amélia to compose and shape the body, the actions and the actions of his daughte.
