Atmosferas do lugar ? relação entre rito e arquitetura: o caso da Capela Universitária Jesus Mestre

Abstract

Esta pesquisa estuda a relação entre rito e arquitetura no espaço sagrado, revelando atmosferas do lugar, através da leitura sensível da Capela Universitária Jesus Mestre no campus da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná, PUC-PR em Curitiba. Através da observação fenomenológica e em uma perspectiva sensível, buscou-se interpretar os eventos e as suas relações com a arquitetura. O percurso deste estudo apresenta-se organizado em dois momentos. O primeiro é teórico, discutindo a relação entre fenomenologia e arquitetura a partir de trabalhos anteriores. O segundo momento é prático, onde o estudo de caso da Capela é apresentado a partir da observação sistemática. O edifício é descrito em etapas, observando as características tangíveis e intangíveis do ambiente através de categorias fenomenológicas. Em um primeiro nível se considerou o exterior e entorno da Capela, através de cenários que enquadraram o edifício em diferentes distâncias. Em um segundo nível, os ambientes internos e objetos sagrados foram observados, interpretando as qualidades sensíveis materiais e imateriais. Para aprofundar o estudo, um terceiro nível observou a relação entre rito e símbolos, através das atividades das pessoas, com o mapeamento comportamental centrado no lugar, aproximando o trabalho da representação do espaço. Por fim, uma entrevista parcialmente estruturada sobre a concepção do edifício foi realizada com o arquiteto e autor da Capela, Manoel Coelho. Os achados interpretativos gerais e específicos demonstraram, através de uma leitura sensível, a relação entre os diferentes momentos do rito, dos gestos, dos percursos e atitudes das pessoas, características que conectam os elementos com o espaço, compondo o ambiente. A atmosfera do lugar faz com que o rito ganhe sentido, através do posicionamento, arranjo e forma dos espaços. Espera-se, que o desenvolvimento da pesquisa teórico/prática possa contribuir para estudos futuros em situações ou contextos similares.<br>

Abstract: This research studies the relation between rite and architecture in sacred space, revealing atmospheres of the place through the sensitive reading of the Capela Universitária Jesus Mestre on campus of Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná, PUC-PR in Curitiba. Through phenomenological observation and in a sensitive perspective, sought to interpret the events and their relations with the architecture. The course of this study is organized in two moments. The first is theoretical, discussing the connection between phenomenology and architecture from previous work. The second moment is practical, where the chapel case study is presented from systematic observation. The building is described in steps, observing the tangible and intangible characteristics of the environment through phenomenological categories. At first it was considered the exterior and surroundings of the chapel, through scenarios that frame the building at different distances. On a second level, the indoor environments and sacred objects have been observed, interpreting the material and inmaterial sensitive qualities. For further study, a third level observed the connection between rite and symbols, through people activities with placecentered behavioral mapping, approaching the work of space representation. Lastly, a partially structured interview about the building conception was conducted with the architect and author of the Chapel, Manoel Coelho. The specific and general interpretatives findings demonstrated through a sensitive reading the relation between the different moments of the rite, the gestures, the pathways and people?s attitudes and features that connect the elements with the space, composing the environment. The atmosphere of the place makes the rite get direction though positioning, arrangement and shape of spaces. It is expected that the development of theorical / practical research can contribute to future studies in situations and similar contexts.
