Avaliação do nível de conhecimento de graduandos em odontologia sobre clareamento dental

Abstract

O clareamento dental supervisionado pelo cirurgião dentista é o tratamento mais conservador utilizado para dentes pigmentados quando comparado a outros procedimentos restauradores, sendo assim, dentistas que realizam procedimentos clareadores precisam estar capacitados a informar aos seus pacientes as diferentes opções disponíveis e todos os benefícios ou riscos existentes. Este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar o grau de conhecimento de uma população-alvo (graduandos de odontologia da quinta e décima fases da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina) em relação ao clareamento dental. Foi realizada uma pesquisa do tipo transversal, observacional e de caráter descritivo e analítico através da aplicação de um questionário composto por questões objetivas. Um total de 68 estudantes responderam ao questionário. Os resultados foram tabelados e analisados, concluindo que os graduandos de ambas as fases possuem um bom nível de conhecimento sobre clareamento dental e que em assuntos pontuais, como, clareamento de consultório e clareamento em fumantes, a décima fase atingiu melhores resultados (58,62% e 41,38% de acertos respectivamente) quando comparada à quinta fase (17,95% e 15,38% de acertos respectivamente), demonstrando que o tempo de exercício clínico influência no nível de conhecimento. A significância estatística nas questões sobre clareamento de consultório e clareamento em fumantes foi de P=0,001 e P=0,016 respectivamente.

Dental whitening supervised by the dentist is the most conservative treatment used for pigmented teeth when compared to other restorative procedures. Dentists performing bleaching procedures need to be able to inform their patients of the different options available and all benefits or risks existing. This study aims to determine the degree of knowledge of a target population (graduates of dentistry of the fifth and tenth phases of the Federal University of Santa Catarina) in relation to dental bleaching. A transverse, observational and descriptive and analytical research will be done through the application of a questionnaire composed of objective questions. The results were tabulated and analyzed, concluding that students from both phases have a good level of knowledge about tooth whitening and that in specific subjects, such as office whitening and whitening in smokers, the tenth phase achieved better results (58,62 % and 41.38% of correct answers, respectively) when compared to the fifth phase (17.95% and 15.38% of correct answers, respectively), showing that the time of clinical practice influences the level of knowledge. The statistical significance of questions about office bleaching and bleaching in smokers was P = 0.001 and P = 0.016 respectively.
