A luta pelo ensino livre: a educação na Associação Internacional dos Trabalhadores - AIT (1864 a 1872)

Abstract

A Associação Internacional dos Trabalhadores AIT, com seu primeiro período compreendido entre 1864 e 1872, configurou-se como marco para a história do movimento operário e mantém seu legado até os dias atuais. A presente pesquisa analisa os registros históricos referentes à AIT, em especial as atas em que constam os debates e resoluções dos congressos anuais realizados pela organização, buscando identificar os apontamentos relativos às questões educacionais. Através deste material é possível conhecer as críticas à educação até então disponível aos trabalhadores, as alternativas formuladas no âmbito da organização, os principais militantes que contribuíram para reflexão sobre esta temática e o papel da educação no projeto societário reivindicado pelos operários. As propostas educacionais oriundas da AIT estão em consonância com a luta operária pela emancipação da classe trabalhadora e se firmaram como base do que se constituiu anos mais tarde como pedagogia libertária.

Abstract : The International Workingmen s Association IWA, in its first period from 1864 to 1872, set itself as a landmark in the history of workers movement and keeps its legacy until current days. This research analyses historical documents related to IWA, with special focus in those minutes in which its annual Congress debates and resolutions are registered, seeking to identify educational aspects. Through this document examination it s possible to understand criticisms around education offered to workers by that time, the alternatives created within the Association, the most important militants who contributed to this reflection and the role of education within the societal project claimed by workers. The educational proposals originated from IWA are still in line with the workers struggle for the working class emancipation and have established themselves as the basis of what was constituted years later as libertarian education.
