Abstract: |
Auto accidents involving dogs are a frequent occurrence within veterinary clinics and hospitals. The objective of the present study was to report the case of a canine patient who was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia and a femoral fracture due to run over. On September 22, 2018, a dog, female, SRD, of approximately three months, was admitted to Veterinary Clinic Derosso followed by referral and prior care, having been run over by a car. The fracture in the diaphyseal portion of the femur and rupture of the diaphragm were confirmed by radiographic examination. The patient was hospitalized and maintained under medical care and subsequently performed herniorrhaphy and osteosynthesis with internal fixation through plaque and screws. The animal was discharged on September 29 and returned later on the day indicated for removal of the stitches and showed no signs of pain or changes in parameters. She supported the member on the floor without any hesitation and was very active. In the present report, it was concluded that the therapy used by the veterinary team was effective, resulting in a good recovery, the animal was young facilitating the cicatrization of the tissues and another fact that can be concluded is like the complementary exams like the radiography and the ultrasonography become important examinations in cases of trauma. When these tests are not requested, some situations that are relevant to the proper treatment of the patient may be overlooked. |
