O cirurgião-dentista e o abuso infantil: da suspeita a notificação

Abstract

O abuso infantil é um dos tipos de violência de grande impacto na sociedade e, assim como qualquer outra, deixa marcas. O objetivo deste estudo foi apontar os sinais e sintomas que podem ser apresentados por menores que sofrem abuso infantil e demonstrar de que forma o cirurgião-dentista pode reconhecê-los e notificá- los. Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases eletrônicas de dados Scielo, PubMed e BVS (Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde), e em textos pertinentes a área. Utilizou-se como critérios de inclusão artigos que discutem como reconhecer sinais de abuso em menores de 18 anos, como o cirurgião dentista deve atuar frente a casos suspeitos de abuso e como se dá a notificação desses casos, restringindo-se à artigos em português, inglês e espanhol dos últimos dez anos. Os termos utilizados na estratégia de busca foram: maus-tratos infantis (child abuse), sinais e sintomas (signs and simptoms), odontologia (dentistry) e notificação compulsória (mandatory reporting). Os artigos selecionados sofreram uma análise criteriosa e num segundo momento, os dados obtidos a partir dessa pesquisa foram redigidos em forma de revisão de literatura. Baseado nos resultados entende-se que é importante o ensino e conhecimento do cirurgião-dentista dos sinais e sintomas apresentados por menores que sofrem abuso, afim de que o profissional se sinta seguro na hora de identificar e notificar às autoridades competentes.

Child abuse is one of the types of violence that has great impact on society and, like any other, leaves marks. The aim of this study was to identify the signs and symptoms that may be presented by children who are suffering from child abuse and demonstrate how the dental surgeon can recognize and notify them. For that, a bibliographic research was carried out in the electronic databases of Scielo, PubMed and VHL (Virtual Health Library), and in texts pertinent to the area. We used as inclusion criteria articles that discuss how to recognize signs of abuse in children under 18 years, as the dental surgeon should act in cases of suspected abuse and how to report these cases, being restricted to articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish of the last ten years. The terms used in the search strategy were: child abuse, signs and symptoms, dentistry and mandatory reporting. The articles selected underwent a careful analysis and in a second moment, the data obtained from this research were written as a literature review. Based on the results it is understood that the teaching and knowledge of the dental surgeon of signs and symptoms presented by minors who are abused is important so that the professional feels safe when identifying and notifying the competent authorities.
