dc.description.abstract Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a fungus belonging to the Ascomycota phylum, which causes white mold, and has the capacity to infect more than 400 species of plants. This fungus has the ability to form resistance structures that are called sclerotia, which remain in the soil for about eight years, without losing its viability. These sclerodes can germinate in the mycelial form or produce apothecium. The aim of this research was to evaluate the potential of Rosmarinus officinalis, Cymbopogon citratus, Syzygium aromaticum and Eucalyptus citriodora essential oils in the control of the mycelial growth of the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. In addition to assessing the potential of essential oils of R. officinalis, C. citratus, S. aromaticum, E. citriodora, Mentha arvensis and Zingiber officinalis in the S. sclerotiorum fungus sclerotia germination. For the mycelial evaluation, increasing doses of 0, 250, 500 and 1000 ppm of R. officinalis, C. citratus, S. aromaticum and E. citriodora oil were used. Aliquots of the oils were added in BDA fluxing medium with the antibiotic Streptomincine and Penicillin 500 mg.L -1 and 0.5% Tween 20® . After media solidification, a mycelial disc of the fungus was peeled to the center of each plate, sealed and incubated in a growth chamber (25° C and 12h photoperiod). The evaluation started 24 hours after the experiment was set up. The design was entirely randomized with 5 replicates. To evaluate the germination of the sclerotia, they were deposited in Petri dishes equidistantly (6 sclerotia) on the surface of the water agar medium (AA) with the solution of the oils at a dosage of 5000 ppm. The essential oil of R. officinalis was efficient in the mycelial growth index speed, while the essential oils of C. citratus, M. arvensis and E. citriodora in the dosages of 500 and 1000 ppm had 100% of inhibition and in the dosage of 250 ppm had 48%, 45% and 44% inhibition of mycelial growth, respectively. In the sclerotia germination test the essential oils of R. officinalis and E. citriodora inhibited germination until the 5th and 7th day, respectively. The essential oil of M. arvensis inhibited the germination until the 15th day. The essential oil of C. citratus inhibited until the 24th day and from this period remained with potential of inhibition of germination in 94%. The essential oil S. aromaticum inhibited the germination of sclerotia until the 45th day. S. aromaticum and C. citratus inactivated 100% and 50% of viability of sclerotia, respectively, by the TCT test. en
