O fantástico paradoxo no pensamento estético de John Ruskin e a presença do artíficie na arquitetura rural de Santa Catarina

Abstract

Este estudo apresenta uma proposta de ver e de pensar a arquitetura rural edificada pelo artífice imigrante em Santa Catarina a partir de uma análise estética fundamentada pelo pensamento teórico de John Ruskin. As concepções que formam o seu pensamento estético serão tomadas sob a luz do conceito do fantástico paradoxo, que evidencia a vitalidade do trabalho humano e a imperfeição positiva na arquitetura, revelados, sobretudo, no saber-fazer do homem comum. Em suas concepções estéticas, as ideias que sustentam o fantástico paradoxo parecem nos ajudar na compreensão dessa arquitetura e dos saberes por ela manifestados, da mesma forma que nos levam a receber tal materialidade de uma maneira singular. Ao analisar três edificações rurais uma moradia construída na técnica enxaimel, uma moradia construída em pedra e uma moradia construída em madeira , o fantástico paradoxo ruskiniano alimentará tal reflexão estética que busca perceber a presença do artífice no corpo do edifício resguardado. Da mesma maneira, iluminará a análise dos três principais ofícios construtivos que dão forma a tais materialidades carpinteiros, marceneiros, pedreiros e canteiros. Nesses ofícios, busca-se compreender a artesania evidenciada pelos artesãos que ainda guardam um saber-fazer de técnicas construtivas tradicionais, transmitidas de pai para filho, e também perceber como se dá a relação entre a matéria e a coisa por eles construída.

Abstract : This study presents a proposal to see and think the rural architecture developed by the immigrant artisans in Santa Catarina based on an aesthetic analysis founded upon the theoretical thought of John Ruskin. The concepts that make up his aesthetic thought will be analyzed according to the idea of the fantastic paradox, which evidences the vitality of the human work and the positive imperfection in architecture that are mainly seen in the know-how of the ordinary man. In his aesthetic conceptions, the ideas that support the fantastic paradox seem to help us understand this architecture and the knowledge it reveals, while also leading us to receive such materiality in a singular manner. Upon the analysis of three rural structures - a timber-framed house, a stone house, and a wooden house -, the Ruskinian fantastic paradox will provide the basis for this aesthetic reflection that seeks to identify the presence of the craftsman in the body of the preserved structure. Similarly, the fantastic paradox will also shed light on the three main building crafts that give shape to these materialities carpenters, woodworkers, bricklayers and stonemasons. As for these crafts, this study aims to understand the craftsmanship evidenced by the artisans that still have the know-how of the traditional building techniques passed down from father to son, in addition to understanding the relationship between the material and the structure built by them.
