Uma análise do conceito de cumulatividade

Abstract

Trata-se de uma pesquisa sobre o conceito da cumulatividade, em que se procurou extrair o conceito de cumulatividade nos textos de Krifka (1998) e de Kratzer (2005). A fundamentação teórica é a Semântica de Eventos, de Davidson (1967). Krifka postulou que existe a Cumulatividade Universal, uma propriedade inerente a todos os itens lexicais. Nomes contáveis e eventos télicos deixam de ser cumulativos quando passam pelo processo de quantização. Kratzer pondera que, se há uma fonte lexical de interpretação distributiva/cumulativa, também deve haver instâncias dessas interpretações com DPs singulares e com DPs com morfologia de plural. Ela defende que um sintagma verbal plural não ocorre sem restrições: ele requer a vizinhança imediata de um DP com morfologia plural. Conclui-se que a presença ou ausência da cumulatividade deve ser avaliada em cada papel temático, pois a ausência dela provavelmente leva a uma assimetria entre os argumentos.<br>

Abstract : This is a research on the literature about the concept of cumulativeness, which intended to extract the concept of cumulativeness in the texts of Krifka (1998) and Kratzer (2005). The theoretical framework is the Semantic of Events, from Davidson, 1967. Krifka had postulated that there is Universal Cumulativeness, a property inherent to all lexical items. Count nouns and telic events are no longer cumulative when they pass through the process of quantization. Kratzer argues that, if there is a lexical source for the distributive/cumulative interpretation, there must be instances of these interpretations with singular DPs and DPs with plural morphology as well. She argues that a plural verb phrase does not occur without restrictions: it requires the immediate vicinity of a DP with plural morphology. It is concluded that the presence or absence of cumulativeness should be evaluated in each thematic role, probably because its absence leads to an asymmetry between the arguments.
