Abstract: Color change in resin-based restorative materials represents one of the main challenges to the esthetic longevity of dental restorations and has been extensively investigated in the scientific literature. The aim of this study was to identify and analyze the 100 most-cited articles on color change in resin-based restorative materials, providing an overview of the scientific production, as well as the authors, institutions, and research topics with the greatest impact in this field. A bibliographic search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database up to May 27, 2026. Citation counts obtained from WoSCC were compared with those from Scopus (S) and Google Scholar (GS). The collected data included authorship, citation count and citation density, publication year, journal title, journal impact factor, study design and topic, keywords, institution, and the country and continent of the corresponding author's affiliation. Spearmanâ s correlation coefficient was used to assess the relationship between citation counts across different databases and journal impact factors. VOSviewer software was used to generate co-authorship and keyword co-occurrence network maps. Citation counts ranged from 38 to 548, and the articles were published between 1980 and 2023. Laboratory studies accounted for 87% of the sample, with staining protocols being the most frequently investigated topic (16%). Powers JM was the author with the highest number of publications (5%). Turkey and the United States contributed the largest number of articles (17% each), while Ondokuz Mayis University (Turkey) was the institution with the highest number of publications (7%). A weak positive correlation was observed between citation counts in WoSCC and journal impact factors. It can be concluded that the most influential articles on color change in resin-based restorative materials are predominantly laboratory studies, particularly those investigating staining induced by pigmenting solutions, highlighting the main research trends and the most influential researchers in this field.
