Title: Metropolização contemporânea no litoral catarinense: uma leitura configuracional do eixo Itajaí-Balneário Camboriú-Florianópolis

Abstract: The contemporary metropolis presents itself under a new configuration that reflects the changes taking place in society. From a typically monocentric structure that expands radially, the metropolis has transformed into a polycentric, dispersed, and fragmented organism, expanding in an irregular manner. Along the coast of Santa Catarina, these characteristics are manifested in the Itajaíâ Balneário Camboriúâ Florianópolis axis. Its linear structure, which develops along BR-101, the state's main highway, combines the growth of pre-existing nuclei with spaces adapted to tourism practices, which have contributed significantly to the restructuring of the territory. In addition, the proximity of economically complementary cities reinforces the articulated character of the urban system. In this context, the research carries out a configurational reading of the Itajaíâ Balneário Camboriúâ Florianópolis axis, seeking to understand how spatial configuration, articulated with the distribution of permanent and seaside-resort spaces, drives the metropolitanization process. Space Syntax Theory is the central method for the configurational reading, and through the syntactic measure of integration, it was possible to characterize the structuring of the axis and understand how the locations created articulate the conventional urban fabric and the urban-tourism fabric. The results enabled the identification of tensions, dynamics, and particularities of the ongoing metropolitanization process on the coast of Santa Catarina, highlighting configurational characteristics that may be present in other expanding urban systems and contributing to the debate on new metropolitan formations in coastal Brazil.
