Entre ideários e práticas: gênero e feminismos na vida religiosa popular das mulheres do Noroeste Paulista (1970-1996)

Abstract

Esta dissertação tem como objetivo analisar de que maneira os ideários feminista e religioso circularam entre mulheres organizadas na cidade de Andradina/SP, entre as décadas de 1970 e 1990. O Movimento de Mulheres de Andradina, nascido no interior das CEBs e da entidade católica IAJES, por um lado, recebeu o apoio da Igreja Católica, que se mostrou um importante espaço de proteção e oposição à ditadura militar, por outro lado, ganhou força na luta por direitos específicos às mulheres, e incorporou as ideias feministas. Defendo que a relação conflituosa entre o feminismo e a Igreja Católica moldou parte das ambiguidades e contradições das mulheres da periferia de Andradina. Para tanto, busquei nos estudos de gênero um instrumento de análise capaz de evidenciar os significados, as motivações e os conflitos circunscritos no ato de participar. Compreendo que a história dessas mulheres foi marcada pela adesão de referenciais religiosos sobre a condição feminina na Igreja, mas também pela tomada de consciência de que suas experiências foram limitadas pelo lugar de gênero. Este estudo revela que estas mulheres contribuíram na luta por direitos e por democracia, permitindo-nos evidenciar tanto a história de sujeitos situados às margens de processo históricos, quanto para lançar um olhar plural dos feminismos, percebendo-o como prática cotidiana, teoria, movimento ou gesto.

Abstract: This dissertation aims to analyze how feminist and religious ideals circulated among organized women in the city of Andradina/SP, between the 1970s and 1990s. The Andradina Women's Movement, born within the CEBs and the Catholic entity IAJES, on the one hand, received support from the Catholic Church, which proved to be an important space of protection and opposition to the military dictatorship, on the other hand, it gained strength in the fight for specific rights for women, and incorporated feminist ideas. I argue that the conflictual relationship between feminism and the Catholic Church shaped part of the ambiguities and contradictions of women from the outskirts of Andradina. To this end, I sought in gender studies an analytical tool capable of highlighting the meanings, motivations and conflicts circumscribed in the act of participation. I understand that the history of these women was marked by the adherence to religious references about the female condition in the Church, but also by the awareness that their experiences were limited by their gender position. This study reveals that these women contributed to the fight for rights and democracy, allowing us to highlight both the history of subjects situated on the margins of historical processes, and to cast a plural view of feminism, perceiving it as an everyday practice, theory, movement or gesture.
